Interesting add-on product
I'm a big fan of Schleich's Eldrador Creatures line, and this crystal cage set definitely brings something special to the collection. To get the downside out of the way: this toy requires assembly, and it's trickier than I expected. You need to fit six panels together loosely before securing them with pegs in the corners. Once the pegs are in, the structure is stable, but getting there was a bit finicky. The instructions included aren’t very detailed, especially when it comes to how the cage operates or the finer points of assembly, so younger kids might need some adult help. The locking mechanism is a fun feature—reminiscent of a safe’s dial. You rotate it to the correct icon, press a button, and the cage doors swing open. It took some trial and error to figure out, though, as there’s no clear guide on which icon opens the cage.Inside, there’s a pedestal for the magical crystal “treasure.” The crystals come in six separate shapes that you can combine into a cluster, but matching the colors and shapes to the photo was challenging. Once I set aside the manual and just experimented, I was able to put the cluster together. The modular design is a huge plus. You can remove the pedestal to make room for other Eldrador creatures or action figures, and if you have more sets from this line, they can all connect to create a larger play space. This adds a lot of versatility, though the cost can add up quickly if you want to expand. On its own, this set is a unique addition, especially for fans of small-ish figures. I was tempted to dock a star for the challenging setup, but the creativity, compatibility, and distinctiveness make it a five-star choice for me.

High Quality Plastic
You have to assemble it yourself, but once it is together, it is very solid. The plastic is very high quality and should hold up to plenty of abuse. The set really only has a single action feature. If you depress the gold button on top of the cage fast and hard enough, then all the barred sides will fall open. Apart from that, the main draw of the set is being able to assemble the full crystal without having to collect the individual creature sets. (Note, there is a mistake in the instructions regarding this. The blue and green pieces cannot assemble as shown. You must swap those pieces because they used different molds on each piece. and the green piece ended up with the extra groove that the blue piece is missing.) The crystal fits nicely into the included claw pedestal, but I didn't see a way to fully lock it in. So if you pick the set up, the crystal will fall out of its housing. It doesn't include any figures; so feel free to supply your own. I have been into 1:12 scale Marvel and GI Joe figures lately, and I tried it out with a six inch Snake Eyes and Timber. It works okay with those. But, I think if you want to use this with action figures, 1:18 and 4 inch figures will work best.It is well made, and the crystal is pretty cool. But without any included figurines, I find it hard to justify $30 for this. I'd wait until it is on sale for $20 or really even $15. Unless you are an Eldrador mega fan or are desperate for action figure playsets, there isn't enough play value here.

Tricky to assemble, but a great addition to many toy lines
The media could not be loaded. I’m a big fan of Schleich toys and this set is part of their popular Eldrador Creatures toy line. This particular toy is a cage that houses some magical crystals. Let me get the bad out of the way first: This toy will need to be assembled before use. Normally I look forward to putting toys together, but I found this one borderline frustrating. Mainly because you have 6 square pieces that loosely need to be put together with friction. Once you manage to get all 6 sides to stay together to form a box there are pegs you add to the corners to hold the box together to not fall apart. Once the pegs were attached the box was stable, and was very easy to finish assembling.Yes there are instructions in the box, however it really doesn’t go into details on how the toy works and the fine details of assembling it. I pretty much figured it out on my own, but a young child might need adult assistance. Basically this is a cage with a clever lock on top similar to a dial on a safe. You rotate the dial and when you get to the correct icon push in the button and all 4 cage doors swing open. It’s a fun effect, though I didn’t see anywhere what the icons on the dial mean and what icon to turn to that opens it. It was all trial and error.Inside the cage houses a pedestal that you place the magic crystal treasure on. The crystals come as 6 individual shapes that you can join together to form a cluster of crystals. Getting these oddly shaped plastic crystals to form the cluster was very difficult as the colors of the crystals in the photo didn’t match up to my set. Once I ditched the manual and just figured it out myself I was able to get them to join together.Everything is modular in this set, so if you want to remove the pedestal from the cage and use it to house a Eldrador creature or other action figure you have you can do that. This toy really shines if you have the other cages and playsets in this line the pieces will all fit together to make a giant mini play arena really unleashing your creativity. Though at the current price point it will add up fast.On its own it might seem limiting, but it’s very unique for what it does and works well with many 3-5” scale figures. I wanted to ding it a star for the frustrating assembly process, but this is a 5 star toy for being unique and modular to work with other toys.
