Great for indoors, outdoors, fast and produces nice images
Needed short focus fast lens for indoor portraits in tight spaces. This lens on full frame camera gets job done. Usable outdoors too. I can hold white reflector close enough to the model and yet get full body shot. Finally see skies in my outdoor pictures. Bokeh is completely achievable at 1.4. Eye autofocus is limited by distance. Perhaps eye becomes too small for camera to detect too fast. Yet full body shots with eye detect autofocus are easily achievable. Although lens hood is rather shallow, flare was not a problem even shooting backlit portraits in direct sunlight.

Great for photo, but for video...
I really like this lens. Have been using it for a while now and wanted to wait before writing a review. Now that I have had some time to experience with it I feel that the AF is not as good as some reviewers on YouTube say it is. At least for video. It hunts a lot! I shoot with Sony a7iii and in video mode it will go in and out focus at times when the focus point has already been set. I don’t feel completely at ease when shooting video for a client because I’m never sure when this lens will go out of focus. I asked a Sony rep about this and he said it may have something to do with the af motors in camera and the af in Lens not responding simultaneously and in conjunction with one another. BUT, when AF is working, the images are spot on and sharp! In photo mode, this lens is fantastic. Great focal length and very sharp images.

Disappointed and upset with performance.
Update: 9/19/2018 Stay away from this lens if you're serious about auto focus working and your shots hitting with eye-af. The longer I use the lens the worse it gets. I've had it since December and month after month it degrades in quality. Now I can't use eye af with this at all.Worked great for a while but it now won't focus at all and flutters when in auto focus. Save your cash and get the manual focus ones. Especially if you're going to be using S-Log.

Great optics, but very long for a 35mm. Longer than the 85mm and almost the same size as the 35-150. It'll be worth it if you can get it used. Kind of struggles a tiny bit with autofocus. Not versatile at all.

Impressive Lens - Sharp + Beautiful Bokeh - Good Build and Value
I was hesitant after reading so many reviews dismissing the auto focus, while being audible finding focus my images are tack sharp where they need to be and blurred where appropriate, don't hesitate to pick up this lens.

Fantastic for its price
This product offers tremendous speed and sharpness for a lens that sits at this price point. The only issues that I have had with it are slight CA at f/1.4-2 and it has occasionally jumpy autofocus.

Excellent image quality; decent autofocus after firmware update.
Excellent lens for the price. I would definitely recommend getting the Lens Station if you purchase to upgrade to the latest firmware and also adjust the manual focus ring to "fast". I also noticed a slight improvement after adusting the punt setting to 0.I've tried the 35mm f1.8 from Samyang and while the weight is significantly lighter and the auto focus is a bit better; but the image quality of the f1.4 is just stellar, the bokeh is excellent and lowlight performance definitely stands out and it seems to let in more light at the same settings compared to the f1.8. Another interesting thing is that the f1.4 is definitely wider than the f1.8 version. Both are really sharp and if you are just a hobbyist like me it more than meets my requirements, I'm very satisfied.

Amazing lens for great price!
The lens works as good as a native Sony lens! The sharpness and the color/contrast is also excellent. A little bit on the heavy side, but it is all metal and glass lens so it is to be expected. An amazing product for an amazing price! Great value

Outstanding optical sharpness and beautiful bokeh
Pros: This lens is hard to fault - incredible sharpness, incredible bokeh, fast and reliable AF (if you get most recent firmware though). It's right up there with the Sigma art, and Canon's newest 35mm 1.4 (arguably the best out there). It's an absolute treat, and the price makes this a no brainer if you want that incredible prime quality without busting the bank. Cons: No weather seal; no manual focus switch; you need the $100 lens station to upgrade firmware (or find someone with one - there's a guy in Toronto actually on kijiji), and this is really important because the auto-focus is poor in earlier firmware, but they made it almost perfect in later firmware (V.2 and up to 4 now). The station is hard to find in Canada (have to buy from B&H). Also, AF gives a soft grind noise, but totally fine for stills. If you use in-camera audio for video, you'll hear the AF for sure, but with a lav mic on subject a few feet away, you'll be fine - maybe even a good shotgun mic on-camera will be fine if you can cage-mount away from lens a bit.
