Oliver Hirschbiegel directs this German drama based on a true story. Georg Elser (Christian Friedel) is an apolitical man who becomes determined to put a stop to the Nazis and attempts to assassinate Adolf Hitler (Udo Schenk) in November 1939. When his attempt fails he is captured and questioned by the authorities. It is revealed through his confession how he was driven to perform such an act and how the people he cares for, including his lover Elsa (Katharina Schüttler), have suffered because of his resistance to Nazism.

Excellent
I did not know about Elser, so I enjoyed the film even more as it unveiled the true story through a perfect weaving of past and present events, good acting, powerful directing and well crafted editing and sound. English subtitles were not a problem since the original language made the movie all the more realistic. It's a sad story but it's even more so when, looking back, you think about the consequences of those 13 minutes... The title of this film couldn't have been more appropriate. This film is up there with the likes of Downfall, Schindler's list, Conspiracy or April 9th, as one of the most well-made, thought-provoking realistic films about World War II and the nazi regime. If you liked any of those films, you will not dislike this one.

Die ganze Wahrheit
Beautifully presented, wonderfully acted. The true story of Georg Elser who single handedly attempted to assassinated Adolf Hitler It is worth remembering both the existence of the resistance and, sadly, its small numbers. Elser was a member of the Red Front but not of the Communist Party and it is that face which saved him, initially from being a slave worker like his comrades who had joined the party. The communists believed Elser a coward but they were wrong. The film also portrayed Nebe (himself executed for his part in the Stauffenberg plot to assassinate Hitler in such a way that a superficial viewing might have seen him as a 'good cop'. A closer look though shows that this was not the case. The only one present during Elser's interrogation who showed any humanity whatsoever was the secretary who recorded Elser's confession. Nebe stood there and witnessed Elser's torture even after the point that the truth was clear. That is no 'good cop' that's at the very least a quisling. The film was full of little nuances that make it a masterpiece.

This is one of the best war related dramas I have seen
This is one of the best war related dramas I have seen. The historical facts about Esler`s failed assassination attempt are well known so it does not make the mistake of trying to be a thriller . Instead the attempt and his subsequent arrest is dealt with in the first 15minutes and the film in retrospect explores the impact of the rise of National Socialism in a small provincial town, the conflict with communists at a local level and how this may have influenced Esler. Individuals are depicted making decisions based on the realities of life for them at that time.An excellent film ,I recommend it.

Good and interesting
Good movie, with an interesting story I didn't know before. I didn't like so much the main actor, neither the screenplay (with a story like that, I expected more), but it's so important that Germany remembers what happened in nazi period, as well as important is to tell the story of an unsung hero. Not all germans were bad. Many didn't know, many felt fear, many just turned their eyes off, a few - like Elser - weren't able to accept nazism and paid with their lives to help and preservate their country from craziness. A suggestion: Burghart Klaussner, who plays Nebe, has been outstanding in The State vs Fritz Bauer, another excellent german movie about the hunt for Adolf Eichmann

Highly Recommended
On one of my visits to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp I became aware of Georg Elser and learned more about his attempted assassination of Hitler. I know that certain parts of the film were fictionalised in order to assist with the story telling but the film succeeds in bringing this small piece of history to life and hopefully to a wider audience. Elser was an exceptionally brave man, a pacifist and clearly from this depiction a lover and not a fighter. It makes a pleasant change to see a film about this type of quiet, intelligent and determined individual.

Brilliant film
Absolutely excellent film based on a true story with a lot of accuracy. The acting is superb. The film is set in late 1930s and it actually transports you to that time. Loved it.

if you can watch subtitled films and follow them (some hate them) this is a great docu-film about a german resistance fighter, sadly we hear too little of the germans who stood against hitler. first class film making and acting.

A good movie, I know films are not histories so I dare say some aspects are probably not totally accurate but the movie for me was well worth watching.
