Best LED in the worst flashlight
The LED is everything promised. It even beats other flashlights I have with high CRI ratings.Unfortunately, the flashlight production needs some work. Aside from the body of the light being a bit low-end overall (not a total deal-breaker), it has what I call the Worst Possible User Interface.Do you like a flashlight which re-sets to a primary mode every time you turn it on? Or do you like a flashlight which always turns on in whichever mode you were previously using, a.k.a. "mode memory"? Different people have different preferences on this issue. Well, this one does neither. This flashlight remembers which mode you were using last time, and will always turn on in NOT THAT ONE. It never re-sets, so you can use it in low power mode now, then in an hour if you turn it on again it comes on in strobe mode.

This CG2 Focusable Flashlight is the Best Bloodlight and Tracking Light I've Tested!
Amazing! This CG2 Flashlight really does reveal blood better that any other blood lights Iāve seen. It lets me see every footprint and overturned leaf. I usually do shorter reviews, but I really like this flashlight.Iāve a drawer full of pricy flashlights and several blood lights. I got this CG2 in 3 weeks ago. I put in 2 AA Ni-MH rechargeable old batteries and took this CG2 out rabbit hunting in light rain with a friend and on 3 dry nights. Between us, we had this new CG2 flashlight, 2 of the top blood lights, 3 other LED flashlights, and we each had a headlamp.I took my own pictures of blood on the ground using the CG2 and our best bloodlight and high power flashlight like they did in the ad. The CG2 light better showed details to my eyes than the camera picked up. Photos came out great.Blood: The CG2 showed every drop of blood better than either previous bloodlight with great contrast to every background. Our other blood lights were much better than regular LED flashlights for blood, but not good for much else. Our $50-$100 military grade flashlights showed blood as dark stains I would miss if I didnāt know where to look. The CG2 does both best so I now can carry one less flashlight.Tracking: The CG2 was best at everything on the ground. Our other flashlights were really bright but we couldnāt see most animal paths, digging, or prints unless we were right on top them. Rabbit scat showed up well with any lights, but the CG2 really showed off the paths and foraging spots.I could see through mist better than with any other flashlights. This is the flashlight for finding things!Much less blinding haze in rain and fog than with other flashlights (did not test in strong rain)!Uniformity and Brightness: The wide beam and spot focus slider was easy to use with one hand. The CG2 beam was nicely uniform and didnāt have the bothersome bright and dark rings many of our other flashlights have. I could see much better using the CG2 than with the other flashlights, although the CG2 seemed less bright. I had not noticed how bad my other flashlights were until I had this CG2 to compare to.I mostly used the CG2 at its low power setting and the wide beam for tracking to not be night blinded. High power is best for looking for things far away. The CG2 is almost like sunlight for colors. Dug or scratched dirt, flipped leaves, blood, and most everything shows up better with the CG2 without being washed out.Battery Life: After over 10 total hours hours use in 3 nights out without recharging, the CG2 did not dim like my other flashlights. I mostly used the low power setting and only about 50 minutes total at high power. It has regulated power to keep brightness constant as batteries weaken.Red Kryptonite Filter?: This new flashlight came with a strange red glowing filter they call ActiveRed that pumps a ton of red light compared to my headlampās red LEDs. I could see much more with this filter than with red LEDs when walking and stalking, but take the red filter off to best see blood on the ground or for tracking. The ActiveRed filter light seemed to be mostly ignored by the long ear critters. Can wait to try this out in a blind for deer!Pros: Lightweight 3.5oz, IP67 dust and waterproof, no-slip grip, and you can see blood and tracks almost like during the day (maybe better). Focus is easy to pull out for a bright spot or push in for a smooth wide beam. The ballistic nylon holster is a great bonus. It came with a small free tube of silicone grease to occasionally recoat battery cover O-Rings. My diving light uses grease also to protect from possible nicks in the O-rings. This is not a dive light, but the CG2 makers appear to have taken heavy rain proofing more seriously than most other flashlight companies. It also has a flashing mode that is great for signaling, especially when the red kryptonite filter is on the flashlight.Cons: No gun mounting for this flashlight, otherwise it might be great for shooting. It looks less bright at first than 800 or 1200 lumen flashlights, but the true-color spectrum LED lets you see much more that matters than a 1200 lumen light after just a few minutes of getting used to it. The red filter was secure when being used, but be careful when putting the red filter on or off so the filter does not drop. Since this red filter glows bright red under any light itās easy to find if dropped.

I was super excited when I ordered my CG2 flashlights (2) as ...
I was super excited when I ordered my CG2 flashlights (2) as I had been looking for a camping/river running/hunting & trapping flashlight for quite some time. I own a number of headlamps and flashlights by several well known brands including black diamond, petzl, and streamlight. Some of those I own as cheap lend-outs, some I have grown to rely on as a multipurpose light on trips when weight is a consideration or I need particular features from a light. This one seemed to check all the boxes in the description, so when I ordered the light I anticipated a bright light that showed a wide spectrum, quality construction, and convenient features.Well today I received the lights after a quick expedited delivery (I've got a trip coming up and I've been procrastinating my buy) in good protective packaging. When unboxing the lights I could appreciate the durable build quality of the aluminum. The light arrives as it appears on the webpage. It is not heavy, but the weight is distributed evenly. There are 4 segments of the light, all with rubberized gaskets in between for water protection (the light also comes with a gasket lubricant). The first segment is simply the adjustable lens, the second segment is the light itself, the third segment (the largest segment of the light) is the body which has a textured design that has a quality feel and good grip. The main body of the light fits well in my hand. The fourth segment is a twist off portion where the batteries are inserted (two double AA's, not included) and the rubber texturized on/off button. The light fits together and feels solid with no gaps, no apparent machining flaws, and no loose parts or rattles. There is also a red light filter/cap that can be put on the light, it definitely makes it a less intrusive light when around other people. This feature would be great in camp.Operating the light proved easy and satisfying, with no complaints from me. The on/off button is protected on the sides from an accidental push "on" and battery drain (I'm sure that's happened to just about everyone at some point) by the extension of the aluminum casing just beyond the end of the button. The button itself provides an excellent tactile response and "click", there is enough depth to the button that it seems that it would be difficult to depress by accident. The on/off button cycles between high/low/flash. You do not need to fully depress the button to cycle through these settings, as a lighter press will move you from high to low, and low to flash and so on. The button must be fully depressed however to turn it off. The light segment of the flashlight can be extended out to provide more focus, and this operation is smooth and can be accomplished without twisting the flashlight. The high beam of the light is BRIGHT and serves my needs very well, I took it outside to do some quick dog waste recon to try it out. With the focused beam I could see the distinct lie of the grass that my dogs had just tread on as well as sticks and green toy balls in the grass that were not as visible with my headlamp. With this light they actually stood out and contrasted their surroundings well. The high beam when focused a good distance across the yard against a tree lit up my "target" well, and when I dispersed the beam although the intensity on the tree waned the spread was still great to pick out details on and around the tree. We also had some left over flowers from our table spread on thanksgiving, I turned off the lights in the house and after acclimating myself I did a side by side with my streamlight LED flashlight and the CG2. The difference in colors was remarkable!I'm really happy with the purchase and look forward to bringing out at night when camping soon, and using it for tracking when hunting. When I get the opportunity to use the light in those situations I can update the review with my experience. I can tell you that the light functions and feels great, well worth the money. I have two now, but with enough time before the holidays I'll be buying some for my outdoor oriented relatives.
