Still the Best
I purchased my first pair of Serengeti Aviator Drivers >30 years ago. Since that time, I’ve experimented with other name-brand glasses (Oakley, Xezo, etc…), as well as a number of highly-touted newcomers (always the next greatest thing!)After all my tries, I alway come back to the tried and true Driver lenses for what I believe to be the best road presentation available.I won’t “brand” myself as a Serengeti expert; however, I would like to cover what I believe to be a few misconceptions and/or errors in other reviews. These are very high-quality GLASS lenses – if you’re prone to drop your glasses on pavement, these likely aren’t the sunglasses for you. [I’ve read some reviews that show 1 or 2 stars because their glass lenses broke when they hit the pavement – really?!]Also, there’s the debate about polarized vs. non-polarized. Please note that Driver non-polarized lenses allow 8% more light through when lightened, and 2% less light when darkened. In other words, Driver non-polarized are brighter on dark days, and darker on bright days – that’s the reason I choose non-polarized in my main glasses. [“PHD Polarized” are closer in performance; however, they’re also higher-priced, and not available in the Medium Aviators... ]“Gradient” simply means the lens is darker at the top – it doesn’t mean the lens darkens on bright days – that’s “Photochromic”As far as “Medium Aviator Drivers” (6826), they are photochromic, gradient, non-polarized lensesPossibly a bit confusing; however, the website does a great job of covering all their products, including technical specs. One other point to discuss is how the glasses have changed over the years – some say they’ve “cheapened”.I disagree. Yes, they lighter, but that’s mainly due to improvements in the lenses, and the lightness (at least to me), makes them more comfortable on longer trips.Quick summary is these are very high-quality lenses, in a very atrtractive frame. They come with a super-quality case and cleaning cloth, and are the result of many years’ dvelopments and improvements – highly recommended.

Great alternative to Ray-Bans
Great sunglasses. They have the familiar aviator shape, so nothing unusual there. I prefer them over Ray-Bans because of the optics.I like the driver's gradient, which are slightly darker at the top and get gradually lighter towards the bottom. That is a nice feature while driving, because it is easier to see your gauges. These are not polarized, which supposedly makes it easier to see digital displays.Another feature that is a little over-rated I think is that they are photochromic, which means that they react to more intense uv-rays by getting darker.I have the same feature in prescription glasses, but this barely works inside a car, so behind glass. Car windows filter out most of the uv-rays photochromic lenses need to react. So while my transient lenses get very dark when being outside, in a car not so much. Still enough to take away some of the glare of the Texas sun, but nowhere close to regular sunglasses. That's why I bought the Serengeti's. Since these are already dark, they work fine. But I don't really notice them getting darker from when taking them out of the case to wearing them while driving. But so in my experience that has little to do with the brand, it's more a question of physics or chemistry I guess.Next time I buy sunglasses I might want to try grey lenses, because they might be a little more neutral as far as colors go. Brown lenses are supposed to filter out blue haze, which enhances contrast, but they do tint everything slightly. (Same effect in green for the standard Ray-Bans in my experience).Still very nice shades though. Plus around $85 is a steal.

Almost perfect
I came back to Serengeti for a replacement of my old aviators. This Henna was made in Italy, lighter and had "Serengeti" spelled out (instead of the single "S"). The new frame is thin and makes an occasional creaking noise while opening and closing the temple arms. My old sunglasses, in comparison then, was built like a tank -- a heavier one at that. The weight reduction, however, is welcome. The lenses seem to be thinner too and probably a contributor to the weight reduction. The downside is these lenses allow just a little more light through than I like, and under a bright sun I had to squint a little compared to my old Serengeti. I am not sure with age the Henna will get darker, or maybe that was what my old glasses did. Also, the gradient of the new lenses does not cover as many shades as the old one and made it felt more like a solid color lens than gradient (which it is).The images do appear slightly sharper and the color contrast is better with the Henna. The anti-reflective coatings on the backs are much better applied on the new lenses. On the old one they look more like multiple bands. The lighter weight construction is welcome, although it made the glasses seem less strong. Light weight is fine as long as it is durable. I do, however, wish it could block a little more light under bright conditions. The included storage case could also be more compact, this one is huge! Very nice sunglasses overall.

Excellent! But the colour....
Excellent product! The colour... the advertised shows light golden frame but the actual product is a much darker reddish colour as shown but anyways.... Overall, excellent quality as I owned a similar pair since 2005....it did not give way like my old RayBans did. Its still rocking to-date... :)Words could not describe the hassle I had before getting my first Serengeti... Thumbs up!

Excellent sunglasses
These are great... I got them today and tried them out right away. I forgot how good Serengetis were. I'm a long haul truck driver and use them at least 8 hrs a day. They cut through the haze the clarity is amazing!I'd highly recommend these glasses.By the way, lenses are glass and frames are metal. Great quality...They are more an amber/brown lens than the Dark lens.. I had cataract surgery and needed something very good. These Definitely do the job.

SUPERIOR SUNGLASSES
I recently bought these at the bargain price of $138CAD plus taxes at Amazon.ca. They are to be left in my wife's car to be used on longer trips. I own the exact same, bought in year 2000 at Sunglass Hut for a price quite over $200CAD; this pair, which looks brand new after 17 years. are left in my pickup truck. In the past, I used them extensively for driving when I was professionally active and had to regularly cover quite long stretches of road. The only difference between the two pairs are the spring loaded hinges on this pair, which enabled me to wear them directly without any further adjustment.I wore the new pair for a 3 hours drive plus a few hours walking downtown Montreal on a bright sunny day. Same comfort as with the older pair. Both pairs are non polarized. They are supposedly photochromic although I didn't notice any difference in shade when Inside a building or when exposed to direct sulight.Very comfortable to the eye in reducing the sun glare, lightweight even if the lenses are made out of glass which provide for great optical quality and resistance to scratching. I am particularly averse to dark glasses which reduce my clarity of vision; no such problem with these. Increased contrast during snowy days is very useful for driving under such conditions.I am more than satisfied and recommend this product without any reservation.

Amazing
For anyone with light-sensitive eyes, you can't do better than Serengeti lenses. I gave my first pair of Serengeti to my dad, after his cataract surgery, and lived to regret it. No other sunglasses gave me the same level of comfort and vision. Now that I have this pair, I can once again drive, walk, and sit in the sun comfortably and see really well, too - bonus. I'm sure I'd have saved myself a great many squint wrinkles if I hadn't been Serengeti-less for so many years. Live and learn.

Disappointed with the case
When I purchased this item a few years ago it came with a beautiful Serengeti hard case and a Serengeti cleaning cloth. I was disappointed to find a black leather type case and no cloth. Not what I expected from Serengeti and I purchase only these glasses I have had many pairs and gifted them to my friends and family

Only Sunglasses I Wear
Second Pair! I bought my first pair in 2004 and they have been pretty indestructible. These are the Henna colour - not sure why it shows Bordeaux. Great for driving and all around summer and winter conditions. Excellent price. I will always buy Serengetis!

Great!
Not too heavy, very clear, and great to use during those weird days that are not too sunny, but not cloudy either.

Looks good and comfortable to wear.
Saw these on Amazon, and the price was reasonable. Package arrived on the day it was promised and I found these fit well. The bridge pads and arms are very comfortable. Great for driving.

Disappointed:
Ordered sunglasses back in April, - Serengeti Medium Aviator Sunglasses.(Color: Bordeauxon) - colored finish on the metal is peeling off and exposing a silver metallic finish.Had previous Serengeti glasses with the same color finish and had them for many years with no issues.

Well worth the $$$
Already knew how wonderful these glasses are. Yes, they are expensive and that's why they are difficult to find but pilots use them for vision, sun protection etc. This is my husband's third pair over many years. Thanks to Amazon for carrying this product and the punctual delivery.

The glasses are great. The case is great, BUT the nose pieces could be softer. I have had them replaced. Great value !!
