Simpsons Nerds will Love It
I got this book for my husband for Christmas, as we are both huge Simpsons nerds. I read the whole thing cover to cover in just a couple of hours and found myself laughing out loud and some of my favorite quotes. The book focuses on the chronological history of Homer and the Simpsons family (like a scrapbook), but what I found most interesting was how Groening incorporated the more obscure episodes from their past (90’s grunge scene). There are several flashback episodes that are presented (Lisa’s fist word, Homer’s dream job), and it all flows together seamlessly. With beautiful illustrations and a fun layout, this is a must-have for any Simpsons fan.

Beautiful glossy pictures but if you're a die-hard fan like ...
Just rehashes what you've seen in shows. Beautiful glossy pictures but if you're a die-hard fan like me, it might not be so fun

Not what I was expecting...
First off, for Simpsons fans, it is a really nice coffee table book and a really good book in general. My review doesn't reflect upon the quality of the book, had it been I would've easily given it the 4 or 5 stars it deserves. The reason for my 2 star review is that the book wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for when I ordered months ago. Being that this year is the year the Simpsons TV show has been on the air for 25 years now, I was hoping for an in-depth look at the show from it's earliest days up until now, similar to the recent (and incredibly awesome) "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History" which helped ring in it's 30th anniversary in top notch form. This book is simply the history of the Simpson family as depicted throughout the show in a chronological order starting with Homer & Marge's youth up until their present day with all images taken from the 25 seasons of the show. When I originally saw the family portrait picture in the center on the cover, I assumed that it would cover all the way back to the "Tracey Ullman Show" skits from where that image came from. That's where I feel disappointed with this book, as crude as those skits were back then, those skits still hold a special place for me because that's where I (and countless more viewers) were first introduced to the Simpsons. Having aired in late 80s, to me, they broke such new ground and being the young age I was, it was amazing seeing a dysfunctional animated family that got away with stuff that was unheard on television back then, even for almost all live action TV family shows as well. I would've loved to have seen some behind the scenes pictures and stories from those early days, especially with it's anniversary it seemed more fitting. To those considering buying the book, like I said before, it is a really nice book and I can't (& won't) say anything bad about that. Unfortunately, I read into it wrong thinking/hoping it was going to be something else. Perhaps one day they'll release that official "Simpsons" show history book that chronicles the evolution of the phenomenon of the Simpsons empire from the day Matt Groening first sketched them out up until the present, whenever that may be. Keeping my fingers crossed that one day THAT book will be available.

It is my favorite Simpsons book of all time
The thing that I like about this book is it gives you history lessons about The Simpsons. I used it to read.

Understand what you are buying! It's just a Scrapbook of The Simpsons as a Family, not a history of the TV series at all.
I'm giving this TWO Stars because it's still The Simpsons, but it's not really well described at all and could have been so much more.Be warned, it's not a history of the TV show, but more like a scrapbook of the Family (if they were a real family) from Homer and Marge as kids, to how they met, to their early jobs, to the birth of their 3 children. That's it.The entire book is basically a visual summary of all the "Flashback" episodes and scenes from the series presented in chronological order. If you are into that, then you will enjoy the book. If you were looking for a 25 year history of the TV series, you will not find that here at all. I collect everything I can with the Simpsons, but I am actually returning this book because it's not worth the price of admission to me.Be careful what you are buying if you pick this book up. It's not at all what I thought I was buying.EDIT - I'm starting to question all the sudden "5 star" reviews, that say almost nothing other than a few words.... Don't look at the overall star rating, but read the actual reviews before deciding to buy this book. The negative reviews are honest, the positive reviews mostly say nothing of value.
