Hollywood Ending (2002) - Official Region B Blu-ray release, plays in English without subtitles

A film that either never got released in the UK or slipped past my radar, I caught this one whilst abroad and for me it is one of Allen's best. A director with neurotic tendencies (no surprise there but surprisingly a fresh and light version of his perennial theme), he has to film his movie while psycosomaticfally blind!There are untold things that go wrong both before and during his blindness and this is his finest slapstick film for ages. Also his funniest script for a decade and I would have thought that the British fondness for the combination of slapstick and farce (ie Fawlty Towers) would make this Allen's most popular film on these shores for some time. I laughed out loud throughout this film and while it doesn't have the depth or bredth of philosophical comment of many of his greats it is still knowingly humorous with enough self-referential jokes to satiisfy his fans. A great film to watch with your friends.

As a devoted fan of Woody Allen films - I recommend this. It's quirky, it's original and yes - if you want something a little unusual and original in a film, Woody does not disappoint. I won't go into detail as I wouldn't want to divulge the film's content - but I really enjoyed it!

I'm a big fan of Woody Allen and I've been trying to find this one for some time. It is the Italian version, but of course with the choice of English.Took a little time to find out how to remove the Italian subtitles (as I don't speak Italian) buy I got there in the end.

If you don't like Woody Allen then you won't like this! But if you are a fan then you'll be in Woody heaven. This reminds me a lot of the kind of stuff he was writing in the 60s and 70s and was collected in the books Without Feathers, etc.

This was clearly a pirate copy- the picture and sound quality was appalling

I have enjoyed all the Woody Allen movies I watched.This one is by far not a Woody Allen level and quality of movies. It is the second worst W. Allen movie I have watched after 'Scoop' which is the absolute worst so far.Highly UNRECOMMENDED

E' un Woody Allen, quindi o ci vai pazzo o lo odi. Io ci vado pazzo.Woody Allen in questo ed in altri film narra di episodi di vita di persone comuni visti spesso in chiave comica ma con un significato profondo ed una morale significativa. Ti fa viaggiare con la testa e allevia il peso dei problemi personali quotidiani.Il film oltretutto "matura", nel senso che più lo si vede più si apprendono concetti e significati diversi anche in base all' età in cui viene visto.Da vedere.

Aus der absurden Idee, einen schon etwas abgehalfterten Regisseur während der Dreharbeiten für einen Film, der seine letzte Hoffnung gegen sein befürchtetes berufliches Ende ist, psychosomatisch erblinden zu lassen, entwickelt Allen eine Folge aberwitziger Szenen, die so ziemlich Alles ad absurdum führen und durch den Kakao ziehen, was im Filmbusines so vorkommen kann. Wieder sprudelt der gänzlich verwirrte Val einen sinnlosen Schwall leerer Worte nach dem anderen hervor und sagt damit schließlich manches Wahre aus. Wieder muss man einfach schlucken, dass der alternde, gänzlich mickrig und hässlich aussehende, zappelige Mann von einer jungen, hübschen Frau geliebt wird und zuletzt mit ihr ein Happy End à la Hollywood erlebt. Hier dürfte sich das echte Ego Allens und sein Wunschdenken zeigen. Dies Alles wird jedoch wieder so gekonnt und wirklich witzig in Szene gesetzt, dass man aus dem Lachen nicht herauskommt. Es bestätigt sich auch erneut Allens Geschick, für seine Rollen überwiegend weniger bekannte Schauspieler auszuwählen, die unter seiner gekonnten Führung eine echte Chance erhalten, sich für anspruchsvollere Rollen zu qualifizieren und bekannt zu werden. Ich schätze Allen als einen großartigen Könner seines Fachs und seine Filme als eine unverzichtbare Bereicherung dieses Filmgenres.
