Great lock but let down by the harness collar
Bought one of these several years ago and thought it was a great product so I bought two this time. One for my sons bike and the other for my wife's bike. Still a great lock with a very easy to set combination. The plastic collar on both locks didn't allow the lock to be attached to the bike. Its made of the weakest flimsiest plastic so that the lock just falls off and I have had to wrap the lock around the frame on both bikes when not in use. It seems they have decided to save a few pennies on the plastic collar and that means it is totally useless.I've went from being a happy metalock customer to a disappointed one!

Lock vs Thief - Lock wins.
So, you might be wondering "how can a lock that costs under £10 protect my bike from theft?" and I will admit, I was thinking the same before I bought two of these. Me and my other half have been using these every day on our morning commute, we leave our bikes for the better part of the day in an unsecured bike lock-up at the train station. I came back from London the other night to find a big fuss at the bike lock-up, 5 bikes had been stolen. No one had made an attempt on my bike (I will try not to take that too personally), but my other half called me over to show me that several unsuccessful attempts had been made to cut the lock cable and clearly they'd given up! So this is testament to the locks. Maybe with more time they'd have gotten through it, but it obviously gave them such a hard time they either gave up and moved onto another bike or simply ran out of time trying to cut the cable in 5 different places. Thank you Metalock, nicely done.

Pop to the shops
If you are looking for a heavy duty lock to protect your pride and joy and it's going to be outside all day or night then look elsewhere. If you are trying to thwart a thief with a pair of decent bolt cutters, this type of lock is useless - it's really just a deterent for oppurtunist while you pop to the shops or similar.I bought this lock to use with a pram - those things are expensive and proving popular to steal - this is perfect for that since most of the time it's locked indoors - it's just to stop oppurtunists at the cafe or doctors office. It has a 10 digit combination that you can reset, the bracket is a bit useless but it's not so heavy or bulky you can't just wrap it around the frame (or carry in a bag if you have one)So even though this lock isn't heavy duty - it gets 5 stars from me because for the price it does exactly what it's supposed to - deter opportunists.

Fairly good quality
This lock has four pros to it:It's a combination lock, meaning it cannot simply be forced with a paperclip or bobby pin. It's very easy to set one's own combination. The mechanism is designed in a way that makes it nigh impossible to force with a hammer. It is difficult to listen or feel the difference between the combination numbers and the other numbers when trying to crack it.Source: My flatmate and my several years experience as amateur lock pickers/forcers.I won't remark on the cons so that crooks are discouraged from looking to this review for advice on how to break into them.

great lock , poor bracket
bought to secure daughters bike in school yard , which in itself is surrounded by a high fence , so its more of a deterrent to other pupils to not mess with the bike than a theft deterrent , and it would appear it does the job. For the money its a great little lock , but if i wouldn't want to secure an expensive cycle with it .My only criticism of the lock at this price is that the bracket to secure it to the bike broke within a week

Not theft proof
I bought this item without paying enough attention to the picture - my fault! If the braided cable alone was 10mm I would give it full marks. Sadly at 5mm its just not thick enough to withstand the efforts of the bicycle thieves in my town. I have lost two bikes in the last year to these people through using similar gauge cable which they slice through like butter with their bolt-cutters. I once heard it said you should spend at least 10% of the value of your bike on protecting it as a rule of thumb. I think I will cough up another 10-15 quid.

Nice & sturdy
Nice and sturdy lock, large easy to use dials (good for when your hands are cold), can set your own combination. Only negative point is the attachment bracket is a bit useless. The plastic is a bit too soft and it's not good fit meaning that it's difficult to attach the lock on it and can't be entirely sure that it's snapped on properly (i.e. might fall off while riding). Not a major issue for me though as I wrap the lock on the bike anyway.

Bike not stolen yet!
Quick delivery as always. The lock itself is fine and is a good length and sturdy, but the fixing ring that is supplied so it can be clipped onto the bike frame is very poor quality. When fixing the ring to my bike frame the screw went through the thin plastic of the ring, making it unusable. It is not a big deal as the lock coils nice and tight at the moment so I just coil it round the frame (like I used to when I was a kid).
