You get what you pay for: Great value, but below OEM quality
I purchased this filter through amazon because it sounded like a decent quality filter and was < 11 bucks to my door. Overall, I'm satisfied with it; but, there are certainly shortcomings worth mentioning. The e36 series BMW has a special type filter which must be design to break/flex at certain angles to install it without damage. As a consequence, it seems a lot of aftermarket filters are not quite up to the challenge.Cons:-Has only 51 pleats versus the factory filter's 60, that's 15 percent less filter surface area (shorter life, less flow)-Only one (thick) layer of material, the factory filter has 3 layers (reduced filter flow performance with time)-Plastic not molded quite as nicely as OEM (harder install)Pros:-Breaks along the lines it needs for install without tearing-Is probably above average in value for aftermarket replacements for the e36-Pleats are very nicely formed and they are stiff enough to last (I hope)-Does NOT feel like a cheap, wimpy filter. It's good quality, just not as good as what I removed from my car!Bottom line:If you plan on keeping the car, spend a few dollars more on a 3-layer OEM filter and you will get a) better filtration, b) better flow, c) better lifespan, and d) and easier install. These things are PITA to install in this car, so I want to do it as infrequently as possible. If your bigger than 180 lbs, good luck!

Waste of Time and Money
This filter was a complete waste of time and money. There are 2 break points on either side that are supposed to let the filter bend slightly during installation. I carefully broke the break points and the filter fell apart like an accordion. I knew this wasn't right but I figured when I get it in it will just be pushed together. I finally got the filter slid all the way in and found out that the cover that goes over the end would not fit. The cover has two plastic prongs that are supposed to hold the filter in place. I had never had this problem before so I figured I would cut the side of the plastic on the filter to allow room for the cover to fit. This did not work so I decided to pull the filter out to see what else I could do. I went to gently pull it out, like the old filter I removed in one piece, and the paper filter material ripped in three places. Don't waste your time; spend a couple more dollars and get the name brand filter. I have installed dozens of after market cabin filters and this one was by the worst I have seen.
