Love this story!
Despite the fact that The Storm (and Song for the Dying) are novellas, they pack so much pertinent information that help the reader understand Max and Leo that you really feel like you've read a full novel. Both stories have so much emotion, from learning about Renata's family to hearing about how Max and Leo became the hardened soldiers they are today. There is information learned in Song for the Dying that happily surprised me, and I hope we see more of that in upcoming Irin stories. Wonderful novellas, quick reads, and a must for fans of the Irin Chronicles.

Another win for the Irin Chronicles
I was given a copy of this book for my honest reaction, which, once again resulted in a 5 star rating.I was simply stunned at the depths that this book takes you. The Irin world is one of most well written series that I have ever had the honor of reading. I am swept away by the magic and beauty with every story that comes out of this series.***The Storm***I read The Storm, Max and Renata's story, back in December when it was a part of an anthology. And yet I could not skip over it and jump into Song for the Dying without rereading it once again. It was even more beautiful the second time through. I loved the honest chemistry between Max and Renata. Not every love story is a fairy tale, and as they (and many other Irin) have taught us, love isn't always easy, its hard and complex...and absolutely worth fighting for as Max does for Renata. I simply adore this quiet, powerful couple. We also meet some new characters (who I am already dying to see more of!) that help pave the way for the continuing changes to the future of the Irin and Grigori worlds.***Song for the Dying***I didn't know what to expect in this story. Max and Leo have had very basic details of their past explained in the previous books. And I honestly never thought we would get the pleasure of delving deeper into it to see if there was more, and I am so glad we did! As with any tale that goes into the past of an Irin or Irina, the Rending has played a huge part at some point in their life story. You know when you read a book, and something bad happens and you either want to throw the book or you have to stop reading and just sob because it was so atrocious and sad and your brain just can't take any more? Well, that doesn't usually happen to me when I read these terribly tragic Irin stories, because of the way they are written. Elizabeth takes something so heartbreaking, and though there are tears in my eyes, its usually because there is beauty in the tragedy. Somewhere in the horrifying details, she weaves in hope, even in the darkest moments. There is so much to talk about in this short story, but I don't wish to give much away whether its good or bad. I will say that it was a pleasure to see Max, Renata, Leo and Kyra once again and see the 4 of them interact, see the boys take on the ghosts of their pasts, make peace with some difficult memories and get answers that will allow them to strive for even brighter futures with their mates. Oh...and have I mentioned that I love Vasu? ;)

Beautiful
The Storm originally appeared in the anthology Amid the Winter Snow but has the added bonus of a new story Song for the Dying. The Storm is the story of the tempestuous relationship between Max and Renata, set in Midwinter. It is story of loss and love. We meet new characters, who I hope will feature in future stories. The bonus story Song for the Dying continues Max & Renata‘s Story but also brings Leo and Kyra in. Max and Leo must return to their childhood home. It is a beautiful story. I found the whole book to be beautiful. I loved The Storm the first time I read the anthology, but now with the addition of the next journey, it is a beautiful, heart rending, tear making, uplifting journey of love, loss and hope. Highly recommended.
