Crete Marco Polo Map Map – Folded Map, 31 Dec. 2018

This map, at a scale of 1:150000 covers the whole of Crete, but be aware that it is double sided. There is a useful booklet included with city plans, and a place name index. All places are shown in Greek and 'English', which is helpful as sometimes road signs are only in Greek. However, this does mean that there is twice as much text on the map, which makes it harder to read in some areas.My main problem, and the reason for 3 stars, is that it falls apart so quickly. Mine had torn along several fold lines after only 1 days use. As this is double sided, there is bound to be a lot of unfolding and refolding, so, if you decide to buy it, don't forget to take adhesive tape to mend it as needed!Incidentally, we found a series of excellent 1:50000 maps once we were in Crete which gave good detail (including contours) and were printed on really good paper. These are worth looking out for if you plan to explore away from the main roads.

I bought this map prior to moving to Crete and was happy with the purchase. The map has useful details of scenic routes and places of interest.The street maps for a couple of larger towns and of Heraklion is a very useful addition and we've used it a lot, as it can be detached from the map itself.I bought it to find out where we could walk the dog, but the map is not as detailed as I thought it would be for accessible walking routes so I'm slightly disappointed with that aspect.Having said that it is a useful and easy to use map, but more for driving than walking.

We used this for a holiday driving in Crete for the first time. It was fine. Placenames were in both Greek and English. On road signs, larger places have both spellings, but smaller towns and villages obviously don't. But you quickly get used to matching Greek words on roadsigns to the same words on the map - even if you have little idea how to pronounce them! The paper was maybe a little less sturdy than, say, a good OS map but not problematically so. Fine for a driving holiday.

My Fiancee I and I were over in Crete for 2 weeks. The detail is good enough for everyday travel around the entire Island - West on 1 side of the Map and East on the reverse side. Good detail and scale for holiday making, with a pretty good price. Like most of these maps they are a bit flimsy so make sure you take a roll of tape to put over the joints which will tear after daily use. Still good for another trip though.

This is possibly the most un-user-friendly map I have ever purchased.....while the map is clear, and has some useful distance tables etc, it is made from the flimsiest paper, that started to rip on day one, and by the end of the week, the map was pretty much in shreds. It has a ridiculous outer cover, that is larger than the folded map, so if you want to look at the map folded, when you are out and about navigating round Crete (as you OBVIOUSLY will do!) this is nigh on impossible. This map would have got five stars if it was made out of stronger paper, and didn't have the totally inappropriate cover, which renders it unfit to use for anything other than laying flat on a table, and handling with the utmost care.I am trying to upload a pic....this is after one week going to different beaches in Western Crete - hardly heavy duty usage!

Just note - The cover is in English however the map is not notated in any anglicised way. For example Chania is Hania and Heraklion is Iraklio. This is ok for navigation by road in Crete but tricky when at home cross referencing with anglicised text.

Why the low rating ,the map has been folded badly this will reduce the life of the map. Any one who regularly uses a map knows it forever being opened and refolded ,hence the limited life of this map.

This is a really good map, detailed and informative. I regret though that it started to fall apart at the creases on day 2. I do think more care should be taken with quality as obviously one is going to manipulate a map quite a lot.
