Good format but a lot of frustrating errors
Good format - good coverage of subjects but the numerous errors were super frustrating. I am only half way through the books and there are errors in the charts, the sample questions etc etc. I mean I figured it out, and maybe they made me think more but super frustrating when you think you have a concept to spend 10 minutes confirming it is a book error and not a you error

Great Book!
I purchased the Praxis II Chemistry 5245 Study Guide: Test Prep and Practice Questions for the Praxis Chemistry Content Knowledge (5245) Exam book by Cirrus from Amazon. It was the best decision that I have ever made.I love this book. I give it a rating of 5. I love how this book gives a summary of the various topics in chemistry and then presents examples of the problems. The book is well written and I love that it has a practice exam at the end of it.I have found this book very helpful in my preparation for this exam. It covers the key points and then gives you an opportunity to practice the skill. I am able to pinpoint the areas I need to focus on.

Too many mistakes
If you are a recent graduate and did well in Chem, you may find this useful. I was hired as a Chem teacher and therefore HAD to take this exam to get my certification. I only taught lower level chem though, so other than the very basic concepts taught in that course, I had to reteach myself all this material because its been about 25 years since I have thought about things like balancing redox reactions, changes in free energy, gas constants, and dissociation of weak acids and the like. I gave myself 4 weeks, using this book and it simply wasn't enough, the book is filled with mistakes, and the practice test at the end covers material not mentioned in the book. I spent valuable time trying to figure out the practice problems that were wrong. These should have been corrected by now. If you are like me, and having to relearn this material after some years, save your money. Get an APChem text, hop on Khan Academy and take the AP chem course and follow the ETS prep guide. Fill in with Hank Greene's Crash Course, Tyler DeWitt, and Wayne Breslau's videos. Use the ETS study planning guide and make sure you can access the equations to solve the problems QUICKLY. Learn how to estimate the answers. You don't get a calculator so be quick with setting up your equations and doing the basic math. Buy a practice test from ETS and take it as many times as you need to to get speedy at solving the problems. You will get explanations of how to solve the problems on the ETS practice test. I'll be retaking the exam later this summer and using this strategy.

I passed! This book covers all the essentials!
I just took my Praxis II Chemistry 5245 exam today. I studied this book cover to cover over the course of about 3 weeks. Overall I am pleased with the book because I passed my test. I felt like it adequately prepared me. There are a couple of errors in the book, specifically on the practice test at the end. But honestly, it covered all the essentials. I also like the fact that they teach a concept, then immediately follow up with practice problems so that you can check your understanding. My biggest critique is that a few concepts were explained poorly in the book and I had to use a Chemistry text book to straighten things out. I'm specifically thinking of electron configurations and hybridization. Also, the book just listed the solubility rules. I wish they would give tips for memorizing them, like the acronym NAG SAG. But if you are looking for a good way to prepare for the exam, I highly recommend this book!

This is not the best resource for studying for the Praxis II 5245
This book is poor preparation for the Praxis II 5245 exam. A few misprints in the sample problems, which isn't exactly what a test-taker needs when they're depending on a resource for exam prep. The book is also misleading in that calculators are not permitted nor provided for the test, and yet there are multiple example problems in the book where--unless you're also an expert in a math content area--a calculator is practically required (calculating pH from concentration or vice versa; not with simpler examples like [H+] = 1 x 10^-8 M = pH 8, either). The best thing about this book, and the only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of a single, is the practice test at the end. Though I quibble with several of their "correct" answers, they do a fairly good job of providing an actual explanation for why the correct answer is correct, instead of just giving the correct letter for the answer.Save yourself $50 and buy a cheap CliffNotes Chemistry guide for a fraction of the cost. The test does cover both general chemistry and some beginning organic chemistry content, but there's precious little in this book that can't be found better-explained elsewhere.

Very useful for the Chemistry Praxis Exam
Has a lot of what is on the exam. Only lacking part may have been on Laboratory protocols. If you buy this to study, pay the $20 to Praxis to take a practice exam with them. My only issue is it should not cost $50 for this book.

Great Study Guide
The guide is well laid out, very comprehensive, easy to understand and includes excellent test questions. It certainly helped refresh my understanding of all key chemistry concepts and prepare me for the Praxis II Chemistry exam.

Covers material - but loads of mistakes
This book was very helpful in providing a comprehensive review of the topics covered (I passed first time with a 185 - so it must have worked!) BUT!!!! The number of errors in the practice exercises and answers was truly distracting. Had I been less confident or less aware that they WERE errors I would have been really confused and maybe thrown off.
