The book was incredibly readable and provided insight into an often overlooked period of history. Though not as well known as the graphic novel Maus, it compares very favorably, and helped me prepare to teach this period for a High School World History class.

I have given this book as a gift to a half dozen people in the last few years. Incredible piece of journalism expressed in a powerful way. If you know anyone with an interest in history but dislikes hard to digest books that require a comprehensive knowledge of the subject before even starting, Joe Sacco is your guy.

Something different
Excellent! My husband is Bosnian from Bosnia, and while he did not enjoy the negative references to the people in the book, and having been a survivor of the war he was only mildly interested in the material, he found it a little insulting. But I thought it was interesting & cool.

Bosnia under seige and destruction
Safe Area Gorazde: The Special Edition A superior graphic novel based on the Bosnian/Serb recent wars. Joe Sacco went to Bosnia and interviewed people. He's a famed graphic novelist. I was able to get this book reviewed in an international journal on communication.

Powerful journalism in graphic novel form.
Harrowing and powerful portrayal of the Gorazde pocket, a Muslim enclave surrounded and pounded by Serbian forces during the Bosnian War. Sacco does a masterful job of portraying the mundane aspects of life for its residents in the river town, though also paints the abundant horror they experienced at the hands of Serbian troops, of which there were many. I will be haunted forever by some of the scenes in this book, though have to recommend that anyone interested in the effects of war on civilian populations read this. Don't be fooled into thinking this is merely a comic book - it isn't. It is some of the most insightful journalism you will ever read

Powerful
I loved this book. It's not the first book by Joe Sacco that I've read and although I wasn't grabbed by his art style originally, it very much grew on me. And the narrative content more than compensates. The extras in this special edition make for an interesting read and the inclusion of many photographs made it all feel that little bit more real for me.Highly recommended.

libro 10 e lode spedizione 4=media 3

Un must
