Depressing read and a bit confusing
The author is brave to have written this book. What surprised me is that it's published by Harper Collins, as I thought it was self published. I felt like the story wasn't always explained as well as it might have been, which the publishers should really have helped with. I admire the author's courage and I read all the way to the end, but it was difficult to follow what was happening and why sometimes. The author's family are presented in a really confusing way and it's hard to follow their motivation. One minute her mum is a sympathetic character, the next minute she's not. Same with her brothers. I accept that the family might have behaved irrationally and unpredictably but it wasn't really explained we'll in the story. Details like this are part of the craft of writing and I think maybe a ghostwriter would have helped Ms Elliott tell her story more successfully.

Unsatisfying read, lacking important details
Excellent story but badly edited. How did they get a prosecution without physical evidence or DNA? We are not told. All the appalling details might give some sick-o ideas. It would have been better with more descriptions of her therapy and emotional progress and, how any publisher permitted that ending, I can't guess. Were her attackers arrested and charged? Has her step-father been paroled? It is a criminal offence to make threatening phone calls - have her in laws taken action? These errors and ommissions stop the book getting 5 stars. Good but ultimately un-satisfying read.

Emotional
I couldnt put this down I read it within 24 hours of buying it, this book made me want to cry at certain points a real emotional roller-coaster, I can't believe the courage of some human beings. This book has left me wanting to know more about what's happening now in Janes life, i want to know if any of her family have seen the error of there ways.I can imagine this book would really help someone else going through a similar thing to be as brave as she wasA must read!

This was the most traumatic book I have ever read.... The events would have been unimaginable to me before reading this true story. It kept me gripped from start to end because I so wanted her to be safe by the end.....Would not recommend fir under 16's due to graphic descriptions, but a must read!!!!!

heart breaking
this has to be one of the worsed cases of abuse that i have ever read about. This book is not for th faint hearted I had to put it down on many occasions. Its a terrible story of abuse and tortue of a little girl by a man who is an absolute dreg of society I only hope that this utter freak and also janes mother who must have known what was going on and her family who tortured her after her bravery all get their commupance.
