The Keeper of Lost Causes: Department Q 1

Bought based on other reviews, not a writer I had heard of. I am still trying to find that elusive Nordic noir or similar author (think early Jo Nesbo) but this definitely wasn't it! I found it stilted, possibly due to the translation, uninteresting characters and it just didn't work for me at all. Obviously others have loved it, so don't take my word for it!

I absolutely loved this. Adler-Olsen tells this from two sides and the story goes from traumatised detective Carl Morck and his mysterious assistant Assad to Merete Lynggaard, a prominent up and coming politician who disappeared five years prior. There's a sense of knowing what happened quite early on and the 'who' starts to take shape halfway through but it is the race against time at the end that makes this such a gripping page-turner.
