Merry Christmas from the Family
This is a great CD. It is rare for me to find an album that I like most of the songs. The appeal of Robert Earl Keene, especially this album, is not limited to country music fans or Texans. The tracks range from funny and entertaining - "Merry Christmas from the Family", or his story about Willie Nelson preceding "The Road Goes on Forever" to more serious ballads such as "Mariano". Soul searching songs with lyrics like "the semis roll through like stainless steel stallions" portray a vivid and accurate picture of many of the busted old towns on the plains of west Texas. There is nothing like playing that song driving down I-10 west out of Ft. Stockton.

I've been a fan of Mr Keen for over 20 years and without question, this is truly of one of his finest albums. All I need do is close my eyes when "Gringo Honeymoon" plays and I'm transported to that muddy brown ribbon of water flowing through a most beautifully stark, harsh, unforgiving landscape. I'm not aware of any other singer/song writer who can capture and share the essence of this part of Texas.

Very Good Live CD
Why only four stars? Whereas Robert Earl Keen himself would tell you he is a songwriter first, and then a singer, his voice is just a little too nasal on most of the selections. With that said it is still a very good listen, if just for the songs and the band. For my money I would buy the Austin City Limits DVD instead. Then you can see and hear REK and his band, with Fiddler Bryan Duckworth joining them on the last two selections.

Disappointing.
Collection of old REK SONGS and a few new, not up to his standard.

A Great Disc But Buyer Beware
This is a fantastic disc of a great live show by a seminal Texas artist. He gets better with time. Others comments bear this out. I'm writing about this disc being rated as SACD for Super Audio CD. I have ordered 2 labeled a such and have gotten 2 regular CDs. I checked the Robert Earl Keen website, Koch records, and [...], a super audio reference site. There is no SACD of this disc. It does not exist. A faulty bar code on the package causes it to come up as being an SACD. It's a great disc and well worth buying, even if it isn't SACD. Maybe someday.

Un songwriters mai banale
REK, è uno dei migliori songwriters texani. Per me secondo solo all'inarrivabile Lyle Lovett.
