My First Story Writing Book

This book is a perfect introduction for a child to learn how to create a story. It has all sorts of different ways of starting the story or giving them creative options on how to write it, page to fill. As homeschoolers we were a little behind in our writing; the kids didn't enjoy it so we focused on other subjects. Second and third grade came around and I decided we needed to push story writing. They were reluctant, but when I bought this book they were all over it. I think this book would be appropriate for a 1st or 2nd grader that is already able to write a partial sentence at least. And also appropriate for child that can write complete sentences independently but might need a little help with the creative writing aspect or forming a story. My kids are going to be really sad when they finish this book, LOL.

This is the second time I'm purchasing this because we love it so much! My oldest loved it and it really helped him think through storywriting, my second son wanted one just like it. I would say this is great for a proficient 2nd grader but probably more fit for a third grader or a slow to write fourth grader. Both my boys have hated to write but this really helped them get on their way. It's seriously a fun book that I would've loved to have at any elementary age.

I bought this, hoping to motivate my reluctant boy to write a little bit more. This has done the trick, so it's a won for us. There is more drawing than I expected and it's more of a series of little writing prompts, rather than an ongoing, continuing story they are expected to write. He works on this book nearly every spare second he can find- yessss!

Using this for my homeschooled daughter. It is great and has lots of interesting short stories for her to make. Every page is a little different. She is not particularly fond of writing and this was very helpful and she enjoys it.

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter but it just arrived today, January 4th. I've looked through it and it apprears to be even better than I expected it to be. I am a writer and my 6 year old is quite an imaginative story teller herself. I'm sure she'll still LOVE it, despite it being late!!!!

A must for every kid to stimulate reading , writing, creativity process.

My 7 year old LOVES to read, but does not love writing. I purchased this as a fun way to help develop interest in writing and it has helped! He sits down and completes a few pages each time and brings what he has written to share. I love Usborne products in general but I am really thankful for this book!

My child LOVES this book! It encourages her to analyze characters and understand the basics of storytelling and writing.

Love it! Great illustrations and lots of help to structure a story, word helps, plots etc. Buying another one as another gift.

Bought for an 8 year old who dislikes story writing and will always moan and write the smallest amount possible in school/homework. So far he's a few pages in (we're swapping pages completed for screen time) and is really enjoying it. There are lots of prompts and the writing is broken down into small sections so he's not faced with what (to him) is the difficult task of writing a whole story from scratch. Great book, would recommend.

..I bought it for my 5 year old and think I was a little premature for him, you need a child that is both creative in their thinking and also fairly competent and enthusiastic at writing. I'm hoping that we'll pick it up these summer Year 1 holidays

This book is simply fantastic. Good quality hard cover. My 4 year old daughter has worked her way through the whole book now over the last few weeks and it has improved her imaginative writing skills but more importantly encouraged her to write. The progress she has made from the beginning to the end of the book is marked. She has asked for another copy of the book so she can work through it again and I have gladly ordered her another copy.

My home educated 7 year old son who has the condition autism spectrum disorder absolutely loves this book as he was quite intimidated about story writing. The presentation and layout in the book makes it so much fun whilst thought provoking. I’m so pleased we found this book, I’ll be buying the other books in the series.
