The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) - All-Region Blu-ray Import, English Audio & subtitles

This is a favourite film, which I've watched repeatedly, so I'm glad to say that the transfer to bluray is excellent. It's a story of the difficulties and joys experienced by three returning servicemen at the end of World War II. It is family friendly, but deals carefully with some difficult subjects - PTSD before it was really recognized, incipient alcoholism and disability. Our trio of heroes - Fred, Al and Homer - are endearing and beautifully acted, ably supported (in more than one sense) by the female characters. And Hoagy Carmichael is in it too as Butch Engle, Homer's uncle and the owner of "the best bar in town" which becomes the meeting place for the 3 men as they try to assimilate back into civilian life.There's a good dollop of romance and comedy in amongst the drama and the time flies by. Its such a good ensemble piece that I keep being drawn back to watch it again.
