A Canal People: The Photographs of Robert Longden

I bought this book to add to a growing library of the history of canal boat people as I research my own family history. The old black and white photographs are atmospheric. Families were driven to live on their boats by economic circumstances and photographs of the children are particularly poignant.

This book was bought for a friends birthday. He had had a chance to glance through it and has thoroughly enjoyed reading and seeing Photos in more detail. I really recommend for anyone with an interest in Canal History

This book was bought as a present for friends who holiday on the canals. They both seemed very pleased with it.

As I have an interest in photography as well as the canals of England and Wales I thought this book would be a good buy. I was correct. Full of earthy and nostalgic pictures with the barest of captions describing the scenes. A valuable record of a way of life now lost. Would highly recommend.

One for anyone who has an interest in the past this is a great photographic record.Was glued all the way through.You will not be disappointed unless your expecting pages of text there is enough just to set the scene for the pictures and it works well.100% recommendation.

I do like this book a lot its black and White pictures show the canal life well.The people and the boats and there way of life. Some of the pictures would make you want to run away to the canals and some show the real toil; that was involved and a world far different from today.
