Stargate SG-1 - Season 10
J**I
Neither the Best Nor the Worst
This was neither the best nor the worst season for Stargate. Unfortunately, though, it was the last season for the original series. The major foe is still the Orai but the Goa'uld make and appearance as does the Lucian Alliance. Also present are some long standing allies like the Jaffa, Tok'ra and Aesir. It seems right that they all get together for the end...except that it does not really end.The Story Lines are not resolved. I guess that has to wait for Atlantis or the movies.Episode synopses appear below:Flesh and Blood - The season starts off with a bang as the fragile coalition tries to come to terms with the aftermath of the disastrous battle with the Orai at the end of last season. The various cast of main characters have to be recovered from wherever they have found themselves and must do this while dealing with hostilities from the add hoc fleet which was pretty well devastated. Meanwhile, our pregnant pseudo-heroine has given birth and had her daughter taken from her by the Orai. They plan to use her to proselytize and she has been given some Orai powers and had her growth accelerated.Morpheus - The Orai have conquered half a dozen planets in as many days led by Vala. Daniel thinks he has uncovered a helpful clue. He comes up with gate coordinates to a planet where Sir Gawain went on his quest for the Holy Grail. He believes it may lead to a weapon against the ascended. Instead, they find a seemingly deserted planet, lots of bodies and a sleeping sickness plague. The Pegasus Project - The giant stargate of the Orai is still open and the SG-1 one comes up with an idea to close it. They take a ship to the Pegasus Galaxy to visit Atlantis in the hope that they can open a stargate to a blackhole and connect it to the Orai gate. This was prompted by an adventure several seasons ago.Insiders - An alien ship is picked up heading directly for Cheyenne Mountain. Air force fighters manage to force it down only to learn that there is one being aboard...Baal. He's offering a deal. He says to can provide the location for Merlin's weapon in exchange for SGC's help in destroying Baal's clone army. Before you know it, the place is completely littered with Baals.Uninvited - The colonel is ordered to accompany the general to get away from it all and both men find the experience stressful. Meanwhile, the other members of the team are off on another planet investigating deaths at the hand of some strange alien beast. When similar mutilations begin to happen on other planets, including in the vicinity of the general's retreat, there is a sinister connection involving the turncoat humans known at the "Trust".200 - This is a comic relief episode. It involves the alien passing for human from a few seasons back who developed a pathetic "Stargate" type TV show. He is making a movie based on the series now and the SG1 team is assigned to help him. It involves lots of flashbacks. It's the 200th episode and time for some fun lampooning everythingCounterstrike - The SG1 team is undercover investigating a planet where the Orai have just taken over when the Jaffa launch a surprise attack with the weapon used to destroy the Replicators. The team is beam out just in time because all living beings on the planet are killed. This leaves the team with access to an undefended Orai ship. The Jaffa have other ideas. So do the Orai.Memento More - The Trust kidnaps Vala in an attempt to ferret out secrets about treasure, SGC and anything else that pops up. While being interrogated with a mind reading device, a rescue attempt is mounted in which things go poorly. Vala escapes with a case of amnesia and everyone, good and bad, is looking for her.Company of Thieves - The Lucian Alliance manages to bait a trap to capture the Odessey. It is not a simple act of piracy but part of a complex power struggle within the Alliance. The colonel goes undercover to try and get back the ship and the rest of the SG1 crew. The Quest Part I - The SG1 team sets out to find Merlin's weapon. They arrive at the correct planet only to find that they were preceded by a few days by a group of Jaffa. The locals say that everyone to tries to retrieve the treasure is doomed. As they try to figure out what to do, the Orai arrive to conquer the place and destroy the threat. The Quest Part II - The team faces the final test of getting past the dragon but the dragon is rather hacked off. This proves to be just a slight delay and then Merlin is found alive. The team is transported to another planet as he is revived. All are taken except for the Oresai. Merlin is willing to help but reveals that the battle will just get more difficult...much more difficult.Line in the Sand - Using the technology gotten from Merlin, the SG1 team decides to try a field test by hiding a village from the priors using dimension shifting. The scheme works at first but technical glitches cause problems. Sam manages to hide herself and the colonel but the rest of the village is exposed to some very hacked off Orai. The Road Not Taken - Sam is working on boosting the power on the Ancient cloaking device when there is a small explosion. She wakes up to find herself in SGC but it is not her SGC. She has been transported to an alternate universe. That earth is under imminent threat of Orai attack and the only way she can get home is to help them. She manages to do so only to find that the earth she is in has some significant differences from her home. The Shroud - The SG1 team is investigating another planet being visited by an Orai prior. The prior has a new approach. Instead of threats, the prior is using persuasion. The SG1 team is shocked to learn that the new prior is none other than Daniel Jackson and he has a plan. What nobody knows is which side he is on.Bounty - The Lucian Alliance does not like the way that SGC is eating into their profit margins and decides to place a bounty on the members of SG1. This brings all the lowlife bounty hunters in the galaxy out to keep things hopping. This naturally happens while the SG1 team is unaware of the situation and is trying to carry on with mundane matters. It can be quite embarrassing at class reunions as well.Bad Guys - The SG1 team heads off to investigate a planet for the possibility of a treasure trove of high tech. They wind up in a museum in the midst of a party. The locals believe the SG1 team are local terrorists and lock down the facilities. They will not believe that the team are from another planet and they will not believe that they don't want to take hostages.Talion - While attending a meeting trying to reorganize the Jaffa, a bomb goes off and many are killed and wounded. Teal'c is among those wounded. He thinks he knows who is to blame. He fingers a renegade Jaffa said to be working for the Orai. When SGC will not sanction immediate assassination, he quits SGC and heads out on his own to take care of matters. Meanwhile, the leader of the dissident Jaffa wants to form an alliance with earth.Family - Ties Everyone is surprised when a stranger makes contact with SGC claiming to have information on a plot to destroy the earth. Everyone is suspicious but none more so than Vala, the estranged daughter of the stranger. His information checks out so asylum on Earth is granted. He turns out to be an even better con artist than Vala.Dominion - This one is complicated. Vala has a series of dreams she is convinced reveal the location the Ancient treasure trove. Acting on the dreams reveals a series of ambushes so the team loses faith in her. When she strikes out on her own, she is found by her daughter, the Oresai. When the SG1 team manages to capture her, they are all in turn captured by Baal. Baal has a plot in mind. So does the Oresai. SGC will like neither.Unending - Not much has been heard from the Asgard this season until now. They summon the SGC brass to a mysterious meeting. When the delegation arrives, the Asgard say that they are prepared to transfer ALL of their technology to the humans. The reason for this is that their race is dying. The technology is transferred just as Orai ships show up and begin a long chase. Carter comes up with a plan to slow down time for the Orai so she can work on the new technology. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew goes stir crazy waiting. They wait a VERY long time.

Top notch science fiction; I miss the cast.
I have just completed rewatching the entire 10 years of SG-1; 3 - 5 episodes per day, over several weeks. I am sad to see it end. Even though I watched it first run, there were a handful of episodes I didn't recognize. They were a delightful surprise. So, the cast is excellent, and Ben Browder (I enjoyed him in Farscape) was a perfectly matched replacement for Richard Dean Anderson in the final seasons. They all had a natural, comfortable chemistry with each other, and they looked like they thoroughly enjoyed making the show. The ten years are filled with an incredible variety of stories. Certainly, they returned to some ideas several times, but I never thought they became tired. Of course, some episodes were better than others, but with more than 200 episodes, they kept an amazing pace.Stargate SG-1 is a top notch science fiction adventure, and I heartily recommend it to every SciFi fan.

Unending is the best episode ever
You could not have ended the series in a better episode. Tears flow. I miss a show that has helped define who I am and given me and understanding and vision to see and choose the high road even when everyone else chooses otherwise. I pray we get more Stargate.

Excellent ending to a great series
Out of all the ending episodes, out of all the shows in my life time (~50 years), this has to be the best ending of them all.

sg-1 ends with a whimper
I came late to renew my acquaintance with sg-1. After getting bored with Season 4 years ago, I watched Ark of Truth (to see my favorite Farscape actress, Claudia Black - Aeryn Sun was more interesting than Vala but the Syfy villains pulled the plug on her too), found myself lost and backed up to see seasons 9 and 10 in order to understand Ark of Truth. In season 10 of sg-1, you watch the air seeping out of the balloon and can almost pinpoint (after '200') when Syfy pulled the rug out from under an incredible series (to mix the metaphor). All of a sudden, there are fewer special effects, much less creativity and the story threads disappear like candles being snuffed out. The "creative guys" who brag so much about how great they are, stuff in crazy plot lines that are obviously filler to finish out the season with no regard for the fans. Shame on you who think you are so wonderful! SPOILER: Special effects? When Adria ascends (which is the end of a major plot line), they can't even show it. You just see the light on Vala's face. The ship just take the 'mcguffin' through the Stargate. "Gee, do you think it worked?" Some scenes are strictly there to entertain fans of the show - the argument between RDA and DJ being a case in point. And I won't even go into the last episode - this is where we should have had the big show-down - even George Lucas could have done better here (with no budget at all). If I had watched ten years of this show instead of the last 40 episodes, I would have been furiously cutting these discs into tiny pieces. Why then 4 stars? I make it a point to find out whatever Claudia Black is doing and watch it, I tolerate Ben Browder who plays the same character wherever he is, I became a fan of Teal'c (Christopher Judge - 'indeed' is now a part of my vocabulary), I thought Beau Bridges made a great paternal figure and I liked the story arc with his daughter (one of the threads that ended well) and I liked Dr. Lam in her own right, I like Amanda Tapping but she gets too many lines that no one (including her teammates) understand and could have been written "I have to hook up the do-hingy to the snarfel" for all that it furthered the plot. And I have decided that since everyone loves RDA, I am going back to watch Stargate again - from the beginning, even though I hate the wormy things.

SG-1 s10
