Don't let the finished product fool you; tying flies doesn't take a PhD in entomology. The Umpqua Tool Kit with Wood Case reduces the learning curve by putting all the tools you need to get started--vice, bobbin, threader, scissors, bodkin, whip finish tool, and hackle pliers--in one convenient location. The only thing you'll need to acquire is some knowledge and tying materials.

This is a cheap vise, for sure. The lever design does not work very well as implemented. It is rather stiff and not easy to set the hook in the jaws without a good bit of jiggering to get it right. A true rotary would be much closer to horizontal. If this is for a kid - OK. If you are a serious fly-tyer, go for one of the better quality units like a Peak or Regal system; it will be money better spent.

Great, just what I needed.
I have been loading up my vise for travel and all my tools. this tool kit is great to take when traveling and camping. I fish during the day and tie flies to replace what I lost or wore out. I also tie flies I wish I had. The only thing you have to worry about is packing some material to tie.
