Lonely Planet USA's Best Trips 3 (Trips Country)

Well put together
The book is divided up into areas of the US. Such as "Rock Mountains" which includes things to do in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. In the front of the book there is a map of the US that shows each region in a color on the state map with a name given to that region. The page to find that region and those states is also given on that map. So you can quickly turn to what states you wish to explore. The edge of the book is color coordinated to the color of the region you are investigating. The "Rock Mountains" is shown in pink so all the pages talking about the states located in "Rock Mountains" are pink on the edge of the book the colors can easily be seen even when the book is closed. Tons of infoincluding road maps. Inside each region is about 7 ideas of road trips to to investigate that region. Including about how many days it will take to do that road trip. Yes print is small but that's because the book is such a nice size to carry with you measuring; 7 1/2" X 5" by 1 1/2 " thick.

Great book for Road Trip planning
I am planning an 8 week road trip and have found this book to be a very useful tool in my chest of planning elements. I like the way it gives you relatively short drives in an area, and then offers links to other drives described in the book; this gives you plenty of latitude for filling in details on a trip where you have a general idea of the areas in the country where you want to go, but you need some detailed suggestions on what do to in those areas or areas near you destinations. I have five books I'm using for planning, and this is one and another are my favorites. If you are hoping for a long list of restaurants and hotels in each area, this may not be the best source because they only provide short lists, but now that the internet provides so much of that kind of information, I don't believe it's a negative to have a short list and in fact they could leave that out and the book would be just as good but a little thinner. I highly recommend this book for any road trip planning.

Less is More
I enjoy travel books, but unfortunately this book is too scattered. The geographical sections seemed as they were just put in without concern for the overall flow of the book. After reading this, I wasn't sure which trips were the best. Lastly, the print was way too small. It seemed as if Lonely Planet was too concerned with having so much content, yet much of it wasn't helpful. Sometimes less is more.

SMALL PRINT
Beware; the print in this book is very-very small.

not thorough
They miss too much. Need to be more thorough in their approach and quit with the broad brush approach that doesn't really help anyone but those who only want to hit the top highlights

Not great
Not great... Purchased to plan our American road trip of a lifetime but found this book would suit those already living in the US. Its filled with small road trips that often dont start or end anywhere near a location with a major international airport.
