I liked this book a lot
I liked this book a lot, it was exactly what I needed. However there was supposed to be a card included with an access code for me to sign up on connect math with to do my assignments, the card did not come with this book and I think I would have been better off buying one from the school.

Annoying Author, Confusing Problems
The author of this book thinks he's a hilarious genius. In reality he's cheesy at best. His attempt at comedy doesn't help with the math problems at all, if anything it adds another layer of confusion. I even had a math teacher tell me this book is way too confusing, and she taught things in her own way instead of using it.

and terrible dad jokes
If I could give it zero stars, I would. So many typos in this book. Misleading questions, and terrible dad jokes. Any professor who uses this book for his or her curriculum should be fired. The F’ing worst.

It was not the loose leaf book, it turned out to be an instructor book with all the answers . so I ended up making copies from another student's book so I could do the homework

Worst math book.
First of all, I had to purchase this through my school (EWU) because "the ISBN is registered specifically to the school" (for the connect, I presume). 176 dollars after tax for a loose leaf book that like some of the reviews have mentioned, is literally not worth the paper it is printed on.Some issues:1. There are no clear explanations on anything. The class structure was based around group work with no definitive explanation on how to do the problems, so you can imagine how utterly frustrating and infuriating working through this book is when you already have trouble with math literacy.2. Only half the work through each section is actual math. The rest of the time I spend explaining why I'm doing something instead of simply putting the explanation into practice with more practice problems. Unless your instructor is kind and offers, there are little to no extra practice problems. I feel like I'm taking my state exams in high school all over again with this book.3. THE WEBSITE! If it has any connection with ALEKS at all, it's not noticeable. The website is not good. I had a problem once that had written a Tbsp to tsp conversion as T to tsp. T = tons where I'm from. Tons to teaspoons. Recently it has had a constant problem with "connection timed out" reading at the bottom, no matter what computer I'm on, whether I've cleared the cache, or any of the other troubleshooting they offer on their site. Didn't fix. The whole class was having this problem.4. The author attempts to be cool, but instead comes off idiotic, condescending (writing things like, "if you don't write this, your answer stinks/sucks" on many, many occasions), and in some places, like a bigot. I'd be glad to screenshot these places where I feel this way, if you require some proof.5.They jump from easy things they've explained (albeit vaguely) into functions that require a few more steps without explaining that they want more steps and/or what those steps are, relying on the psychic ability of the student to read beyond the lines and attempt to interpret the authors' murky wording.I honestly would have been better off in a harder class that had better structure, actual instruction, and a book that wasn't completely worthless. This was the costliest single book I've bought in my school career, and absolutely the most useless one. If you must take a class with this book, get yourself a tutor. You're going to need one.

Frustrating.....
This book is very confusing, and there is little step by step process on how to do the work. There are typos, and weird jokes that are just annoying. This book was used for by a professor for my math class, and I was very disappointed in the explanations and quality of writing in the book. Teachers, please don't use this book in your classes. Your students will be frustrated and will have to constantly bother you for help because the book is confusing, and difficult to understand. Sadly, this math book was a complete waste of time and money. Math is certainly a weakness for me, but I am a hard worker and will give my best effort even in a subject that I don't like. However, this book just made the math infuriating and so much more difficult then it needed to be.
