This Is Why We Lied: A Will Trent Thriller

One of the best Will/Sara stories yet
Everything you would expect from a Karin Slaughter novel and so much more. Interesting, well developed characters lend depth to an intriguing plot. That being said, the pieces fall into place as ypu read and the storyline isn't outlandish or confusing, just one you can't stop reading. I am left feeling satisfied, eager for more, and wishing it wasn't a year for the next book!

Excellent!
This was my Will and Sara, back again, at their finest! I read it without the face or voice of that terrible actor who plays Will on the TV series (which I only made it through 2 episodes). That show just doesn't work for me. Anyway, great story. I have always loved how she writes Will's personality and the way he deals with his history. He's a product of the system who succeeded in life. Unlike Dave! Ugh. He's awful.Poor Mercy. No one in that family ever showed her any. No Mercy for Mercy. Great book!

great read
This was a great story, with solid characters. Pacing was good, with lots of little twist and turns, and then a few big twist and turns. Good ending

Great as usual...
Karin Slaughter never disappoints. I plowed through this faster then I wanted to, I wanted to savor it more, go slowly, if I could, since I waited sooo long for this to finally come out. I was jonesing for some more Slaughter already, seems like it's been a couple of yrs now since her last book. Maybe it has? I've read them all, of course, most a couple times. Discovered her early into the Grant County series. Love them all. I wish we got a bit more Sara/Will stuff, but she does that on purpose, I know. Withholds. Occasionally I feel that she adds a bit too many plot twists, 2 try to keep us guessing, not b predictable, etc. Can get a bit too convoluted for my liking. I knew who the killer was at the beginning. No spoilers here though. Keep writing Karin, faster please, haha.PS. Not crazy about what u allowed them to do w/the Will Trent series. Lead actor is great, story seems well done, I don't have a problem w/changing races of characters, BUT the changed them too much! Amanda + Faith r nothing like their characters and that's just wrong. No Sara 2 ruin, thank God. Least i don't think so. I only watched 1 or 2 episodes. Was too changed for me. I know this isn't Outlander, book or series, so I get it. 😉

Excellent, just excellent!!! She outdoes herself every time!!
Awesome book!! Karin Slaughter has done it again!! If I could give it 10 stars I would in a heartbeat!! I finished it in less than 24 hours!! As always characters are incredible, dialogue just flows & it just keeps you guessing right up until the very end!! ! loved it!! The Will Trent books are some of the best mystery/thrillers that I've read & I read a lot!!! I highly recommend this book!! You won't be disappointed!! Even though this book is part of a series & you will enjoy the whole series, it works just fine on it's own too!! Read. This. Book.Just one question...when's the next book coming out??? I'm ready?!? I think we all are!!

You WILL Like This Novel
This is a mystery that will keep you in suspense till the end. There are several sub plots and red herrings. The action is good and the characterization is vivid. The setting adds to the mood of the story. Will, Sara, Faith, and Amanda stay in character.

Very clever
She's written a closed door mystery much like the OG, Agatha Christie, but she's clever and she throws that right into the book. And in the end it's not really at all like AND THEN THERE WERE NONE or any of the copycats. It's an original and modern story with all of our favorite characters. The twists just keep coming, and I will continue to read this series because I love Will and Faith, and Sara is still Sara, but she makes Will happy and that makes me happy.I would strongly recommend not starting with this book if you're interested in this series. Go back at least a few. This isn't the one to draw in new readers. It's more of a dessert for those of us who have been reading the series forever.

Always a Good Read
With Karin Slaughter, you know what you’re getting: the story will be gritty, the details will make you cringe, but the book will be one you can’t put down. Or at least that’s my experience. I’ve read all of her books and love them. You know how sometimes a writer will incorporate new characters, and you’re annoyed because you want to read about the characters you already know and love? That won’t happen here: you’ll enjoy the new folks, even the awful ones. Slaughter is a writer whose books I buy automatically. Loved this one!

Dark, disturbing, utterly compelling
Fans of Karin Slaughter’s books know to expect harrowing and brutal tales but “This Is Why We Lied” takes that to an entirely new level. Not quite with regard to murders, but more so with everything that surrounds it.Will and Sara are on their honeymoon at the McAlpine lodge. It’s not quite going to be the wonderful time they intended. What is supposed to be a romantic late night rendez-vous in the lake quickly turns sour when they hear screams. Someone has killed Mercy McAlpine. Oddly enough, not a single family member seems to care about Mercy’s death. But Will does. Mercy left behind a son and for Will things have just become extremely personal. In more ways than one.The beautiful mountain setting stands in stark contrast to the dark and disturbing family that are the McAlpines. This family. Phew. Toxic doesn’t even begin to describe them. So many secrets and lies, skeletons, and an unprecedented degree of manipulation. They made my blood boil, and my skin crawl. Most of all, there was an overwhelming sense of sadness for Mercy and all she’d had to deal with. It’s often hard to comprehend why Mercy stuck around, but Karin Slaughter does an excellent job in putting forward the choices Mercy made and why. This honeymoon from hell reads like a locked room mystery, as bad weather prevents people from leaving the mountain. Blinded by events from his past, Will quickly zeroes in on a suspect. As did I. While Will had a long list of motives for his suspect, I failed to see a single one for mine. But I stuck to my guns, even with the author valiantly attempting to lead me up the garden path, throwing some red herrings into the mix, and trying to distract me. The reveal, when it came, was utterly heartbreaking. Not something to forget in a hurry.‘This Is Why We Lied‘ is an extremely compelling and utterly unsettling story. A true page turner, it’ll have you turn the pages faster and faster to find out what happened to Mercy. True to form, Slaughter will make you squirm with some rather uncomfortable moments. But I do feel she’s slightly changing direction somewhat. Sure, Mercy’s murder is vicious but not as gruesome as some other deaths Slaughter has come up with in the past, some of which some people apparently found gratuitous and unnecessary. (I didn’t 💁🏼♀️). However here, that’s not where the vile and savage happenings come to the fore. With each Will Trent book, there seems to be more depth to the characters, more psychological insight, and Mercy’s family in particular will undoubtedly get under your skin.Karin Slaughter continues to raise the bar and I continue to proudly wear my fan badge. Recommended!

great book
Loved the book, as all of Karen Slaughter books are exciting. The only thing I didnt like was the cover with a flap that made it hard to hold.
