EPA: Ozone purifiers pose significant HEALTH HAZARDS
Be advised BEFORE you purchase an ozone air purifier. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises AGAINST purchasing so-called ozone purifies as indoor purifiers for because the devices DON'T live up to their claims AND they can pose health risks.Details are available on the EPA website:[...]We had one of these EQ Ecoboxes for our baby (not knowing the potential hazard it posed to her breathing and the increased risk of asthma ozone purifiers may be associaited with). They are addicting, the air smells clean. It all seemed good. Then we read the health risks covered in the EPA report. We also noted that all the rubber items in our house started deteriorating quickly. It is known that exposing rubber and foam to ozone causes it to decompose. Foam in the vicinity of the purifier became brittle and crumbled. The soles of some rubber shoes fell apart. We replaced 3 DVD machines in a four month period, we finally traced the issue to the deterioration of a rubber belt in the DVD that was caused by the Ozone.Read the EPA report and then seek an alternate solution.Cheers.EO

Ecobox Should Not Be Left On for Long Periods
The EQ Ecobox is a hard unit to judge. Initially, I was very impressed with it for use in my basement office. It came with a four button remote. It does absorb noxious odors from dust, pet hair, cigarette smoke and other airborne dirt. I paid $400 for the Ecobox from a dealer friend. It worked fairly well for 2 years. Despite regular cleaning the fan would stop periodically so I spent extra time taking it apart and scrubbing the components which would temporarily fix the problem. It is fairly easy to disassemble and clean yet the fan seemed to cut out on an increasingly frequent basis over time (the green light would start blinking on and off). It's hard to know if the real problem is the power, lamp, fan or something else because sometimes the lamp would click/blink and then the fan would cut out. Finally, no amount of home repair or cleaning seemed to help. Now it only works in "Away Mode" but that doesn't do much other than blow air as opposed to taking it in and purifying it. Away Mode will work on my unit for 30 minutes before cutting out. Overall, it's a little pricey for what it does and how long it lasts. I would not recommend it for anything more than occasional use because the few times I left it on for a couple of hours it seemed to develop more and more problems. I have since found a much more affordable purifier.I also bought 2 Fresh Air Focus plug-ins (for $50 each) from EcoQuest/Vollara which still work but it seems many of my guests don't like it. It isn't listed on Amazon but I must admit those devices were even less effective than the Ecobox. They are ozone generators that claim to freshen air in otherwise odor or stale-prone environments such as bathrooms and laundry rooms. I put one in each recommended room but anyone who walked in there seemed to complain almost like clockwork. They must be cleaned every 30 days but even on first use it was obvious that it really doesn't do much. Now I prefer to use refillable air freshener plug-ins which work much more effectively at keeping the house smelling great (though they make no claims about air purification).

Five Stars
Cleans a very large area and is not very noisy, just enough white noise at night

Poorly and cheaply made
A friend purchased one of these units and we helped her keep the filters cleaned. It stopped working so we opened it up to find one of the (very thin) wires connected to the lamp inside broken off at the lamp connection. In looking inside it was apparent that the unit is cheaply constructed from cheap components. It should sell for about $29.95 at most, but there's obviously a huge markup for someone if you pay close to $300 for the thing. It may or may not work as advertised, but looking inside explains why most reviewers here report that theirs lasted only a few months. Fortunately, we were able to resurrect this one, at least until some other cheap component fails. Look elsewhere for air filtration.

Good for a short while
We purchased a brand new EQ Ecobox through a dealer 4 months ago. Initially, it worked really well and we like the away feature that would supercharge the air when we were gone so when we got home the place was great. However, about a month ago the fan in it quit spinning. We've maintained it with all the specific detail on how to clean it but it's just putzing out. I think we're going to send it back and put our money elsewhere and read reviews on other systems. Note we don't smoke nor do we live in a messy or dusty house. My wife has asthma so we try really hard to keep our place clean and allergen free.

Better than Orick Air Cleaner!
Backed by independent research from NASA and other agencies, the Ecobox has been shown to kill 98% of airborne viruses and bacteria. In the "Petri Dish" test, a Petri dish was left in a room for two days and then sealed. After the Ecobox was placed in the room and turned on, another Petri dish was left in the room for two days. The first dish was full of dust, dirt, and other airborne particles. The second dish was almost spotless! Thus proving the effectivenss of the Ecobox.

A waste of money
This air purifier does work as advertised, just not for very long.It recieved light use and had never been damaged, dropped or subjected to heavy air purification. It was on a bookshelf in a nonsmoking living room.I purchased mine new from a dealer and it did work for 6 months. I returned it and they replaced it with a new one. At 11 months it died again. I was charged $20.00 to have it "looked at." It was replaced once again. At 14 months it died again. And, yes, I was charged another $20.00 for the "look." They told me that it would need to be replaced, but was out of warranty. The estimate for repair was $175.00. Needless to say, it went into the trash. What a waste of money.I contacted the manufacturer's Customer Service Department twice and never recieved a response. I wrote to the President of the company. . . you guessed it, no response. If you are considering buying an air purifier, I would reccommend another more reputable manufacturer.
