Beautiful and erotic
I loved the first book by Mioki and when I heard he was writing a new book the suspense was almost unbearable. It was well worth the wait! Mioki's books are a fun mix of sex and story with unbelievably stunning background artwork. Not only is every character fully 'fleshed' out, but there is a great story line and each panel is drawn like artwork should be, fully realized. While I think it's a good idea to read the first book as it makes this story richer, it's not necessary to understand the story line. Rick and Evan the main characters, are young and in love and of course they have lots of sex. That life, that's real life. I love that we often have little breaks in the story for sex, sometimes a snippet and sometimes long, hot, let's do every position we can think of, sex. There are other characters as well and we find out more about them and they generally get to have some sex too. The first book was getting to know Rick and Even, this one is more about their relationship to each other and their friends."Still Side By Side" is more of an adventure story; foreign lands, big ships and private islands. There are even some fun and sexy guest stars. Midnight Man drops in and the Manhattan Prairie Dogs provide a little entertainment. Intrigued!? Well you should be. Buy this book. Buy the first book "Side By Side" too. Settle down in a comfy chair for some fun, frolic, adventure and lots of love.

Beautiful+sexy+romantic=perfection
Mioki has two beautiful, fabulous talents: as an artist and as a storyteller. I fell in love with Side By Side, and this volume, the sequel, elicits the same reaction. I am so thrilled that Evan and Rick continue to be featured in this story. They are so much in love with each other, and that makes their sex scenes even hotter. And make no mistake, the sex scenes are smoking hot. Mioki so wonderfully captures the eroticism and joy and spirituality of gay lovemaking, in all its forms. I truly care about these two men through his writing. My other favorite couple is Billy and Robert. Their love goes beyond the age difference. These two men are true soulmates. And once again, through story and totally erotic art, Mioki brings this tale to life in such a perfect way. Sex without love, or at least passion, is rather meaningless to me. That's why I am so very attracted to Mioki's books. The nudity and sex alone are worth the price of the book. Combine these with first-rate storytelling, and I have in my possession a volume that is priceless. Please write, and illustrate, another book soon, Mioki. I will be first in line to purchase a copy.

Sweet, engaging erotic story
I loved the first book "Side by Side..." by Mioki,I thought it was a bittersweet, yet very erotic story of love and loss. Some critics will say Mioki's books are "just gratuitous gay porn". I disagree with these critics, the sex scenes in the book seem organic and make sense within the context of the story. As with the first book this is about exploring questions in relationships. Is hot sex enough to keep a relationship going? Will age and/or body type differences negatively affect a relationship? How does money or lack thereof affect a relationship? I was really glad to see that there is more diversity in this book in terms of age and ethnicity than in the last book. Also, I like that the elder characters in the book do not fit the negative stereotypes of older gay men nor are they merely muscle tops with grey hair added. The characters are all likable people with the exception of Charlie who becomes unpleasant after awhile. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel-good gay erotic comic.I should mention that having the first book is important to understanding the sequel and thank you very much Mioki for your beautifully illustrated continuation of a lovely story.

not actually useful observation
Other reviewers have already said everything positive I would have said. This is a book that will be read over and over, at least around here. It's a deliciously and beautifully rendered "as it should be" love story. Makes good feelings deep inside where we hide our perfect world! That said, I have an observation to make. In low light conditions there is a nearly miraculous transformation of a totally great job of printing into an largely unreadable, pixelated wonderland. So, the revelation here is: Don't try to read this book in the dark! Apparently, in low light conditions the rods take over, And they basically, are black and white only a low resolution. The cones (color perception) in the macula do not receive enough light to function properly. You actually see a different picture in low-light conditions than what you would usually see. Just another near useless, though, hopefully, interesting observation. ;-)

Quality Erotic Gay Comic Book....Fun !!
This is a high quality hardback 'Comic Book' for the gay man. It is formatted like a comic book......pictures and text. But it's no kiddies book. This is an 'X' Rated Gay Erotic Book. The drawings are real nice. Mioki is very talented.Like all three of Mioki's books, they were censored in Japan, but are now available for us in ALL their glory. This is a fun book for yourself or as a gift.

It Will Appeal to some, but not all
That is a matter of taste. The artwork is of a high quality and calibre. I don't wish to create a bad impression of this person's work.I wasn't expecting the amount of pornographic material. A little more graphic than expected.I personally should not have bought this book. However, there are those I know who would rave over it.Will read the fine print a little more carefully in future. 8)

No story boring pictures
For some reason I had not realized this was a story in color pictures. Not particularly erotic. Not particularly interesting story. In a few words, dull and boring.

a most welcome return
This follow-up to "Side by Side" feels much more of a Gay Sex in the city. (some might say sex in the city is a gay sex in the city!) Though, of course, this is way more graphic and so perhaps could be called the Gay-porno Sex in the city! In this follow-up book, the four friends from the first are now off on exotic journeys. It is great to see the characters again and to find out what they are doing now. And, because of the 1st book, we really do want to know how they are doing. But, as is the case with "sequels" it is tricky to come up with a story as engaging as the first one. This story, for me, has a slightly "travelogue" feel to it. Some may really like this and may feel it adds new settings and locales which it does but I really enjoy the exploration of the dynamic between the four friends. For me this is the most interesting aspect. Don't get me wrong-what is good here is very good. There is good character development and the story picks up from where the first ended and expands on it with nice little twists and turns that keeps it interesting. Plus the artwork is once again stunning. I do hope there is a third book which develops the characters and relationships even further and is less about exotic locales. The first book was a coming of age, exploring sexuality and independence which is readily identifiable. This follow-up features situations that are not so identifiable unless one has money or has connections to it. However, I would certainly recommend it as the very good points outweigh the not-so good. And the chance to re-visit the characters again is not to be missed.
