This works great with the USB 3
I bought this drive as an external alternative to my dvd drive in my laptop, that had failed. The hard aluminum casing makes it very tough. This works great with the USB 3.0 data rates. The drive is super quite, and loads very fast. It is light weight and thin. I personally thing the data cable needs to be A LOT longer. The short cable (only 18”) makes it somewhat difficult to place and use on a normal PC Vs a Laptop. I did have an issue trying to get the drive to initially load and register on my devices. I contacted the seller and they were super fast and friendly. They worked with me with trying to get it to work properly. The seller was very knowledgeable on computers and was able to help me getting it up and running.Installation is pretty straight forward.1. Download a Blueray DVD player Software of your choice. I have Cyberlink. Another one you could also get is Leawo ( This is a freeware one.)2. After installing the software, go ahead and plug the drive into a USB 3.0 port. The drive is backwards compatible to 2.0, but why slow down this beast! Your computer should beep letting you know a device was connected. The drivers will be installed and your drive will be ready to go.3. Go ahead and go pop a big bowl of popcorn while you are at it. You know you want to.......4. Needs full usb power
Update:2Not good for ripping device constantly disconnects and reconnects to pcAnd due to lack of power wil get device errors st high speedsUpdate :After giving my usb hub a full wall power vs plunged into pc. It works greatBumped to 4 stars only reason not 5 the case seems flimsyCouldn’t tell you if it can play movies on PcI got this to rip to Mkv files but the drive keeps getting errors that says the file has been modified.My best guess is a data Copy error of some kind not like the blu Ray data can changeI get the same OS error in 3 applications

Spins up they dies
Tried it several times. It spins up connected to my MacBook Pro, then about about 15 secs after spinning up it just shuts down. Checked my connections. Unplugging and reinserting them. No better. I wish I had tried it when I bought, but with all the positive reviews I thought I could wait till I ended to use it. Shame on me

Great until it failed after 7 months
I loved the product until it stopped working. I did travel every 6 weeks with the blu-ray player, but always in a padded backpack compartment. I thought the failure might have been the cable, but swapped out the cable and still didn't work. I will not buy this again.
