Troyte Griffith: Malvern Architect and Elgar's Friend

This was bought as part of a birthday present and is greatly appreciated. My friend had put this on her wish list.

This book is a biography of the Malvern architect Arthur Troyte Griffith. Educated at Harrow School and Oxford University, Troyte came to Malvern in 1896 to work as an architect and remained there until his death in 1942. He designed the Toposcope on the Worcestershire Beacon, All Saints Church in Lower Wyche and a number of local houses. He was also an accomplished watercolour painter, designer and a skilled chess player. Perhaps his greatest claim to fame was his long and close friendship with Sir Edward Elgar, with whom he helped to found and run the Malvern Concert Club. He was immortalised as Variation VII (Troyte) in Elgar's Enigma Variations.
