Power Pack Classic Vol. 1

Do you know where your kids are?
This was a good old slice of nostalgia, and as always I enjoyed revisiting stories I first read in the mid-80’s as they came out.Power Pack was never a top book for me back in the day, but I’d read it in a heartbeat over some of the stuff being put out today.Simpler times mean simpler stories, so the 10 issues covered in this collection will probably not be to everyone’s taste but, for me, Louise Simonson and June Bridgman do a great job. The 2 issue Brent Anderson fill-ins are even better. You get a nice smattering of guest stars (Spider-Man, Cloak & Dagger, Marrina, Dragon Man) and a real feeling of the Pack being part of New York.A classic collection for a classic era.

This should be a movie
I remember reading this when it first came out and always liked the series. I don't have the original issues anymore so when I found out it was being reprinted in graphic novel format I was eager to read it again. I've always thought of it as super powered children in a grown up world. Four siblings gain superpowers to save the world from a dying alien. The oldest is 12. We have Katie - absorbs matter and expels balls of energy. Shes the youngest of the group so you can imagine how destructive she can be. Julie - flies with a rainbow trail. Jack - can alter his density by either expanding and going cloudy or shrinking to become more dense. Last we have Alex - gravity manipulator. Each power works remarkably well with each other yet alone they have problems. Like Alex and Jack go off by themselves and can't get around as well without Julies flight power. The thing that strikes me and always has is that the first 4 issues and parts of issue 5 could easily be made into a movie. It would be fantastic as long as it didn't get too dumbed down. I know many years ago a television series was being developed in Canada (if memory serves) but as I understand it just had the characters and not much else. One of the things that made this book great were the guest stars: Spider-man, Cloak & Dagger, Dragon Man (who's a good guy here but a villain in Fantastic Four), and Marrina (from the old Alpha Flight series) make an appearance in this first volume which covers issues 1-10.If you think this is going to be like the all ages book that is being put out now it isn't. It tackles subjects that you usually wouldn't find in a book like this. One of which is the Cloak & Dagger team-up and debating on if they should allow the bad guys to die or be hurt. It's scenes like that which makes this book great!I now look forward to reading volume 2.

Power Pack Attack!
I own the paperback versions of the three current Power Pack Classic trade paperbacks and was pleased to see that they're now available on Kindle. Power Pack was an old favorite of mine from the 80's. It was and still is a fun comic series about a quartet of preteen siblings, the children of a scientist, who is kidnapped by aliens, the Snarks, who want steal the designs for a matter/anti-matter generator that he's created. The Power kids, Alex, Julie, Jack and Katie are rescued by a friendly alien, who, when he is fatally wounded, grants the children super powers to rescue their parents and keep their dad's invention from inadvertently destroying the world. And that's just the beginning. Here's hoping that Marvel will pick up the series and reprint the rest of it.

A Blast From The Past
Power Pack #2 was all it took to motivate me into subscribing to my first comic back in 84' and I was with it all through the series until it's unfortunate but not unwelcome end. The stories had waned over its last yaer and a half so it's a joy to read those early tales once again. Marvel wouldn't put together a similarly aged team until the Runaways and most of them were teen-agers to start with. Power Pack was a breakthrough in this regard and the re-booted series just doesn't have the same feel to me. Power Pack Classic forever!

Great collection. I grew up on this series
Great collection. I grew up on this series. Only complaint is the book itself looked used but was purchased "new". Slight sticky stuff on back cover.

Glad to see it, sorry they never completed the set.
