Great pattern, poor instructions
I made two Easter dresses using this pattern—the sleeveless version—for size 5 and size 8 girls. The pattern pieces were sized perfectly with good proportions and the dresses fit just right and look exactly as pictured. There were only four pattern pieces used for the sleeveless dress, and this dress took very little time to sew. I added a lining of a soft cotton material because I didn't want the seams to be uncomfortable—basically meaning I sewed an entire second dress for the inside of each dress—and despite all the added steps to do the lining, it only took three hours and fifteen minutes per dress from start to finish including cutting. My criticism is this: The instructions are nearly non-existent. I have a lot of experience sewing dresses and I didn't really need them, but I would have been really frustrated if I didn't already know how to sew a dress and the little tricks (such as clipping curves and the quickest way to sew in a zipper) that aren't explained in the instructions. And even though the instructions were minimalistic they did mention basting every seam, which is kind of ridiculous and which I did not bother to do.In addition, while the outside of the package did give lengths of fabric to buy, it did not state that seam binding was needed. There were pictures of *something* on the package that perhaps we were supposed to assume was seam binding, but what type and what length were not on there either. (I used one package, but if I had used seam binding everywhere the instructions said to—which I didn't since I used the lining to hide nearly all the seams—I would have needed two packages. Also, the package lists the need for one 24-inch zipper. Perhaps this length exists in Europe (in centimeters), but my store only had 20-22–inch zippers. You actually probably only need 18 inches for the largest size, as I ended up cutting about 4 inches off the bottom of the zipper for the size 8 dress and more for the size 5.So, summary: lovely dress, simple pattern, terrible instructions. I don't know if I will buy this brand again if they're all like that, unless it's something I've sewed before.
