It’s held to the mount with some shrink tube and a small screw that goes through the braid in the rope.Let’s talk about the rope. This is where the stars come off of my review. It is not cotton as the listing states. It is a nylon rope with some bits that are already showing that tendency of braided nylon rope to have scratchy fibers pointing out. The ends have been melted, which is not possible with a natural fiber. As this sits in my vehicle, the sun will degrade it and cause it to be abrasive, not something I want against my favorite hat.That said, it’s a great idea, and now I have all the parts to implement the idea. I will be replacing the rope with a natural fiber or maybe braided 550 cord to ensure the longevity of my hat.If the nylon rope is not a concern to you, then this is a perfect solution for keeping a favorite hat in place in your vehicle.

While the posting indicates a dashboard mount, I really have mine hanging against the side wall just inside the hatchback. I didn't want it drenched in sunlight as it would be on the dash. That's the great thing about these, you can use them any place you have a smooth surface for a suction mount and space for the hat to lay out. And they also have a classic look. I wore my hat yesterday due to rain, and it came out of - and went back into this mount with no issue at all. Handy, quick, secure. What else is needed?Not so good: Nothing to report.Bottom line: Simple solution, effective hat storage, and comes as a pair so you can mount one in more than one car.
