Didn't know it was a childrens book but OK I will save it for my grandkids

Fascinating birds

I bought this out of interest of shorebirds, but this should be a good read for children (one reviewer said 3rd-5th grade). The book tells the story of the journey of flight from Alaska to Hawaii without being too anthropomorphic. The writing is often poetic “Twinkling stars fade above the ocean/ The dawn grows soft and pink, An incoming tide hisses across the shore. A golden plover ruffles his feather, shaking off beads of sea spray onto a jump of rocks”. The accompanied drawing has 7 plovers roosting on the Hawaiian shore. I particularly liked the drawing of two musk ox, with a plover in the scene. There is also a one page fact sheet on the Pacific Golden Plover
