The Viva Mayr Diet: 14 Days to a Flatter Stomach and a Younger You

lLife changing
I read this book in January and applied the chewing methods and guidelines in this book. I chew 30 to 50 times per bite (depending on how dense the food is) and don't eat raw after 4pm. Eating dinner before 6 pm is tricky due to family schedule, but we eat as early as possible. I also don't drink anything while I'm eating, but love my water in between meals. In two months I've gone from a size 14 to a size 10. But more than that, I don't get heartburn anymore ( I used to get it at least 3 times a week), I barely have gas at all, and have a new energy that is steady and consistent throughout the day. I feel lighter, healthier, and I'm a great listener at mealtimes! ;-) I highly recommend giving this way of eating an earnest try. The benefits surpassed my expectations.Update as of 3/17/17 - I have lost and kept off 50 lbs due to applying the concepts in this book. I am now a size 6/8 depending on the store. I still feel lighter and healthier and my skin has never looked better. This is truly my lifestyle now and I couldn't be more grateful for reading this book.

Amazing book!
This book is an absolute gem! I have already started incorporating basic principles, chewing, not eating after six, and no raw food in the evening, and I notice huge improvements in my digestion and my sleep quality! I have, finally, found many answers I needed, and it is easier than I thought! Viva Mayr is one of the best clinics in the world, and I am grateful they shared their knowledge with us!

Really works!!
This is a life changer. The book makes sense on so many levels and I actually lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks and am steadily still dropping the weight! I highly recommend to anyone who wants to lose the extra pounds the healthy way and not by crazy fads.

Good beginners book
This book is a good start up book. I feel she talked to much on the same subjects or repeated her self. But it got to the point if I skipped around!

Weak read. Self indulgent author.
This book is a joke. Diet suggestions are just self indulgent babble by the author. I would not recommend it.

Good advice didn’t love the writing or recipes
I’m incorporating a lot of the advice in this book. I’m overweight and had reflux so I’ve quite enjoyed seeing results from following the guidelines. Those are huge positives. Onto the negatives...The book advocates reducing animal products and using plant based food wherever possible but nearly every recipe in the book calls for animal products, which makes no sense to me. The author’s writing style grated on my nerves, I’m sorry to say. I would have liked information about doing the stomach massage and better guidance on portions for food. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet but what do healthy versions of king-size, prince-size and pauper-size meals actually look like?

Resolve digestive complaints once and for all
I'm giving this book a five-star rating because it deserves it. I say this as one who has ordered many wonderful books from Amazon and I don't recall every having written a review before. However, I always read the reviews before I buy, and they steer me in the right direction. So here is my contribution to other researchers.I have spent the last 30 years trying to figure out how and what I should eat in order to feel well. I've tried many of the approaches detailed in this book. What I was missing was the knowledge of how to integrate all the different aspects of eating well. In the process of reading and understanding the information in this book, I was also able to come to grips with a more fundamental question I've been struggling with, namely, what is the role of food in our lives. What should it be?The authors pull together a lot of complicated information in simple language, and organize it very logically. So achieving an understanding of the concepts is simple. Doing it is another matter, and anything but simple. But that's because of a life-time of habits that are contrary to what my body needs. The more closely I am able to follow the Viva Mayr approach, the better I feel. It's all about what food we eat, how and when we eat it. The most exotic supplement suggested is the use of baking soda. In other words, be healthy without using supplements. Expensive or otherwise. It answers lot of questions: When to eat raw food, when to eat cooked food? What is the role of protein in weight management? How can we soothe digestive systems run amok? How much water do we need? When do we need it? How much food do we need? What is the role of fats in good health and energy and which are they? How can I access the powers contained in food for my own body's use?I feel I've come to the end of my search. Life will be simpler from here on, as regards shopping for groceries, preparing and eating them. As regards consistent energy levels and so enjoyment of life in general. Quite possibly I will spend less time and money too, on food.I recommend this book for people who are sincerely looking to feel well. And look good. I've been working with this approach for several months. My chiropractor was stunned at the turn-around in my digestive complaints in a few weeks. I noticed last night that my hair is becoming very shiny. I expect more benefits to follow.

Interesting concept though not always practical
ok, I bought this book after hearing about the Mayr clinic on a plane. I thought I'd read about this clinic before investing in a stay there. I found the concepts interesting, no raw food after 4pm; drink water either side of your meals but not with them; have your heaviest meal for breakfast and your lightest for dinner; don't eat dinner after 6pm. Another rule is to chew every morcel of food between 30 and 40 times. The concepts are all very interesting and make a lot of sense, the problem is implementing all of these changes. For me it is not an option to have my biggest meal as breakfast, I definitely couldn't face any cooked food or things such as mozzarella first thing in the morning. And eating before 6pm is also out of the question as by that time I am just reaching the house. I have been trying to stick to the water at mealtimes rule but not strictly as after my meals I have some pills to take. The only rule I have been follwoing as strictly as possible is that of chewing my food until it becomes unrecognizable. The great thing with this part of the diet is that, once I finish my meal, be it a medium lunch or a light dinner, I am so full that I feel no need to pick at anything else until the next meal. So I stick to drinking water or some herbal teas and feel great. The flip side to chewing so much is that when I eat processed food (I have a serious sweet tooth so any chocolate/sugar covered thing is my thing) I am not as satisfied by the flavour as I was when I chewed 3/4 times and basically swallowed the thing in one piece. This results in me eating less of my old faves...excellent for my waistline. One thing I always thought was healthy and therefore find very difficult to change now, is eating fruit or raw vegetable in the afternoon or for dinner. I always thought a salad and some fruit for dinner, especially if I get home very late, were much better than almosy anything else, but it seems all my life I have been wrong about this.To be honest the entire book makes sense though most of its suggestion can be awkward to implement, including the recipes.I haven't tried any recipe yet or I'd end up eating very late; they seem very tasty but, especially those for lunch, I find difficult to prepare and take to work. But if you have the time, or maybe have a kitchen at the office or, even better, don't work, they would be ideal. So why did I give the book a 4 if it seems I'm being negative about it? easy, just because I cannot be bothered to try hard enough to implement all the changes, it doesn't mean the entire book is wrong. as I said, the concepts are really interesting and they make sense.Plus I am implementing some changes, even if a lot slower than the 14 days as the book outlines, and I am seeing the benefits. So if I am seeing benefits with only 1-2 changes, I am certain if I followed the entire program I would be feeling even better.I'd say it's worth investing in the book and at least follow the rules you can, whichever they may be and see how you feel. I bet you'll feel really well, though I do not believe one will lose any weight until every single rule is being followed. But until that time comes, at least I have started and feel better for it.

The only thing you can really do on the viva mayr diet is chew🤗
Like the idea of the viva mayr, but found it not practical for full time workers .Was drinking less water due to the restrictions on when to drink before and after eating .Disliked most of the recipes but have enjoyed some. I would like to think that it would be of help to someone who has bad eating habits,by following this diet I'm sure it would be of help.Loved the mango and papaya breakfast still having that regularly and more conscious of chewing now .going to the actual spa is defo on my bucket list .

Boring... Oh so boring...
The book is written in a really annoying manner... It is just impossible to read ... Really boring and patronising. Don’t waste your money and simply eat healthy, including loads of veg, avoid sugar and eat spelt bread.. Basically the book in a nutshell ;)
