The Riffology - Learn To Play 140 Classic Guitar Riffs! Tab (Guitar tab edition)

Would give it 3 and a half if i could....
.....but it's just not worth 4 stars IMO.Good things:- - Wide selection of riffs and styles - On the whole seems quite accurate but see below for some isolated cases - Excellent nuggets of info, they didn't have to put them in after all.Bad things:- - As mentioned by another reviewer sometimes they only give you just a fraction of the full riff - Presumably the TAB has been generated by software, since the tabbed fingering for "Mr Brightside" is ridiculous compared to how easy it is to play using a C-shape, plus a few other instances I have noticed. Happy to be proven wrong if that is how the guitarists actually play it though - Since they are claiming 140 classic riffs, there are some very notable absences; Sweet Child O Mine for example. I can understand it is a costly process to get the rights, but personally I would prefer the tab for 40 genuinely classic and iconic riffs rather than a mishmash of 140 where only a handful could be considered classic. - The old favourite issue with tab books; won't lay flat while you try to play something

Great for dipping in to
For those people who never read the product description: this won't teach you to play the whole song – but it does give you the tab breakdown of some great riffs (and some not so great!). In some cases it'd be better to have a bit more tab to play a longer version of the riff, but mostly you get enough to get a handle on it. It's not just about the tab though, each song has a potted history and some interesting facts and quotes thrown in, so it's entertaining to read through even if you haven't got your guitar to hand.

Inspiring gift
I bought this for my 28 year old grandson who plays base guitar in an amateur group. He sent me a text to thankand said it was a very useful book and he was going to use it to update and learn new music.

RIFFS.
Good riff book. Be better if it started with easy ones and worked up to difficult ones.
