In a turn-of-the-century Renaissance Italian mansion, its tyrannical owner, a one-handed, wheelchair-bound pianist, with a strong belief in the occult, is murdered.

Brings back memories
Took me back to when I was little, when parents thought it was ok, for young ones to watch scaries. I had been itching to watch it for a while, and was glad I did. Hardly 10/10 but for a film made in the 40s, not bad. Good for a bit of nostalgia.

Peter Lorre losing his mind!.............
I love this film!We are in a dark spooky house with it's own crypt on the doorstep, a couple of "madmen" and the obligatory female who is not always in distress! We have murders, spooky music and suspicious minds galore!Peter Lorre loses his mind so well on screen that, for me, nothing else really matters. He is immensely watchable always. And if you are buying this excellent B-Movie then you are probably also a fan. However, I will say that this transfer is a very nice, crisp quality. No problem with the sound at all. It all plays beautifully. Yes - the price tag is a little steep but hopefully if we continue to buy these rare films then Warner and others will continue to restore and release them.A B-Movie classic which ranks up there with Vincent Prices' "The Bat"! Enjoy!

Enjoyable: my dad raved about this film and now I’ve seen it too
Yes, Peter Lorre was typecast and yes, it’s a typical Hollywood horror film of its time, but he made the best of it, but the film was excellent, schlocky and beautifully shot

A excellent classic of a domaning master and faithful carer who has a woman taking care of his well being and the estate. However, death occurs, and relatives cruel out of the wood work fighting over the will and wanting it contested, and other possessions and items. Peter Lorre, and great actor as well as in the 1960's remake of Murders in The Rue Morgue, his jealous of his masters wealth. Tragic consequences fallow, but happiness can come of it..

Now several decades later it was nice to revisit for nostalgic reasons
This was the first "Horror Film" I ever saw when I was a child, and it scared the hell out of me. Now several decades later it was nice to revisit for nostalgic reasons, but its not exactly a classic. Not a bad way to spend an hour or so, but not a must see.

Look out for the hand!
I saw this film when I was a child before they had "X" certificates and had never seen it since.
