We used it for a relatively large and heavy painting- if you make sure to twist it well at the ends, I’d say about 10-20 lbs should be no issue. Again- also depends on the screw/ anchor/ wall it’s hanging from. Also consider double wiring for something super heavy. Bottom line is that it’s STRONG twisted hanging wire- should work for most cases

Q: how much weight does it support?

I had no problems hanging clay weighing 10-15lbs. I would not be concerned using it for more weight but I do not build heavier items.

Q: what number wire is this?

The company doesn't number this product but the closest comparison I could find was a #2. I found this to be very sturdy in hanging clay masks weighing approximately 10-15lbs and I also unwound the wire to use in my clay work. It was very well made wire and the steel was extremely versatile if that helps.
