Bookmarking comb-bound or spiral bound notebooks and diaries etc is a real headache. These little tags are pretty sturdy and stay in place which is a real headache when the spirals are quite small.The reason for the docked star is that because of the way the widths differ. This means they must always be kept in order or you won't see the narrower bookmarks behind the wider ones. So moving one marker on a month in a diary, for example, means moving *all* the dividers on. I kind of get why this design feature is being used; but in practice, unless you're never going to want to move the dividers, they don't really work as they should.
