Brilliant but sexist
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it really helped my Christian faith and I found the science fascinating. I thought he was terribly dismissive of the feminist science issues and seemed to have a closed rather than an open mind on the issue. Great book though.

A Potpourri of Scientific Delights
This is a collection of short essays on scientific topics and oddities. I would have liked Karl Sabbagh to have explored some topics in a little more detail. His choice of items is idiosyncratic but it contains many fascinating insights and is very easy to read. Recommended for anyone with a passing interest in Science and the unusual.

Hair of the Dog
This is a very interesting book, even for those people, like me, who are not terribly versed in the sciences. Written a very reader-friendly fashion, with lots of fascinating information.

HOTDog!
I found HOTDog while I visited the UK recently. I normally don't pick up scientific books, but, experiencing a hangover while I was browsing the books, I was drawn to it. I found the essay on hangover cures and was fascinated to know the biological reason for hangovers and their cures. So, that's why I left for a vodka shortly after purchasing the book. All kidding aside. Sabbagh takes complex scientific theories and phenomena and makes them accessible for lay readers such as myself with great humor and spin. The essays are just a few pages so I don't feel like I have to sit and read the book; rather, I can pick it up each night before retiring to bed and read a few. The essays are all so fresh. I am amazed at how he collected this information and creates the threads that he does. I highly recommend this book--especially for non science readers. I have found that it's not available in the US...I hope so soon. This is exactly what I would give as Christmas gifts...guess I'll have to splurge on the postage from the UK.

excellent book for fact dipping
Bought two copies, one for supercool 30 year old and one for a traditional but cool 60 year old. Both thoroughly enjoying it. Girls keep dipping into it too as it has some pretty amazing facts. Highly recommend it.

Not very illuminating
I was a bit dissapointed with this book. It gives a quick summary on a lot of interesting topics. However, each section seems to end abruptly without going into as much detail as I would have liked.
