Fun graphics but out-of-date: no Captain Marvel or Avengers: EndGame
This is a fun way to catch up on the history of the different Marvel characters and their movie back stories with cute graphics and fun explanations. But it was written before Avengers: Infinity War came out, and a lot of the wording suggests it's a way of preparing to see that movie. Given that the movie has come and gone, as has Captain Marvel (not mentioned at all here) and the final story, it's rather dated and incomplete. They should have waited a year so that the complete story of Phase I through Phase 3 could have been covered rather than stopping abruptly before the end of Phase III.

Bought as a present for a 10 year old. Good quality pictures and lots of interesting facts about the characters. Decent price compared to other outlets

A guide to the mcu
A pictorial guidebook the marvel cinema movies. This runs for one hundred and twenty six pages, and tries to be a complete guide to them all. These films have come in three phases, as the producers say, so there's a section to each phase. Looking at the films in each. Each film gets a two page summary. And then either one or two double page spreads follow, answering questions about plot and character from each.It also has an introduction to the films and the marvel universe setting at the start. And a guide to the action in some of the movies. It's more of a guide than an encyclopaedia, as it just gives general information, and isn't as long as it would be if it was the latter. Although it is fully indexed. It's a good book to flick through visually, with plenty of eye catching photos from these movies. And it goes right up to Black Panther, covering that, but just features a preview of Avengers Infinity War.It doesn't though touch on Spider man Homecoming at all, and the Incredible Hulk [2008] is also strangely absent. But then there are right issues with both characters, so that may be why. There is some irksome duplication of information on the films with two two page spreads, but for all of these they are written in nice wry style of humour that can make you laugh out loud at times. As ever with this publisher, you can't fault the production at all. But you have to ask: who is this for? It's not a comic. So it's going to be a bit too wordy for the very young. And anyone older will probably know all the information in this already. And have all the movies on dvd. But if you don't, then it's a good general guide. Especially perhaps for parents who want to be able to get into these films with their kids.So that minor complaint aside, this is a professional production, and worth four stars.

Attractive little book, but do you need it?
This is a nice little hardback, each page laden with photos, in the familiar DK style.First of all, if you're already a Marvel fan, you really won't need this at all. Well... unless you're some sort of crazy 'completionist', but in that case it will annoy you, because it fails to mention the Spiderman movie - probably because the the increasingly restrictive and stupid 'intellectual property' laws that plague our society.Actually... while this is an attractive little book, it's a bit difficult to see exactly WHO is the target audience. As I've said, if you're a fan, you don't need it. If you're not, why would you care? For newbie-fans, perhaps? Yes, I think that would work. Or not-quite-fans who have seen some (but not all) of the movies in the sequence, and don't want the events of INFINITY WAR to go right over their heads? I think that would work too.The book basically gives a run-down on the stories, characters and events of all the movies in the inter-connected series (except, as mentioned, for Spiderman: Homecoming). But while it's beautifully produced, I find it hard to get excited about it. I suspect that it will soon be available in your local bargain bookshop at a small fraction of its current price.

Great for partners of Marvel nerds
The world of Marvel is ever growing and continually intertwining, so it is getting harder, even for the avid fan, to track or correctly remember all the threads. Movie night can get off to a slow start if you have to explain to your partner what’s been happening in previous films (not necessarily watched recently) before you watch tonight’s film. Or worse, you might have to keep hitting pause to answer “Who is that guy?” or “Why does he have powers?” questions. Now your friend or other-half can quickly get up to date by scanning a few pages of this book (or get the answer themselves whilst watching the film). The first handy reference is the order the story in the films unroll in, which appears in the opening section of the book. There’s some other handy general information at the start before getting into the meat of the book, where each film (up to, but not including, Avengers: Infinity War) gets 6 pages to go over the protagonists, a quick run through the storyline and general, scene-setting background.Well, I say everything up to Infinity Wars, but there’s nothing on Spiderman: Homecoming for some reason. Maybe because it would have broken the neat 5+5 film split of the book. In any case I’m surprised that Ant Man is there but Spiderman isn’t.In general this is a handy reference and my wife is very happy with it. I, personally, think it spends a bit too much effort being glib and humorous in the descriptions at the cost of clear information. Obviously, it needs to work as light reading and not be a Marvel Manual for Deep Nerds type encyclopaedia, but if you fail to understand what it’s talking about then there’s a problem. Some of the infographics are graphic to the point of needing effort to follow their flows. In the end the book strikes a decent balance between just enough and too much information. It is well organised, concise and attractive enough to warrant the price. It will definitely give some the peace they desire whilst watching their hallowed movies, leaving the history lesson to the book.My wife is very happy to have this to hand and thinks it is a great reference, so I’m sure others will too.

This is a handy book for people who enjoy Marvel.A nice book to flick through and enjoy the pictures. There is some good information in there. I am one of the lucky ones whose wife loves Marvel so it wasn’t like I had to make her read the book, so she doesn’t annoy me asking questions during a Marvel film. Perhaps if you are in a situation where your partner does not enjoy your enthusiasm for Marvel you can show them this book and eliminate questions when you’re trying to enjoy the spectacle that is Infinity War.I was disappointed to not have Spider-Man feature anywhere in the book. It’s a great Marvel film. There is a lot of focus on Iron Man which is great and all but could be a bit more towards the many other great heroes that Marvel now has. It’s a nice book and I love Marvel so can’t really fault it, however I am not sure I would pay the price for it as its hardly like the most collectable item I have seen.

Great
I do like this book...it's a dk book and written in as simple a way as an information book on marvel can be.It's not massive but there is quite a lot of info in there...it focus is on avengers and spiderman is all but forgotten. The book is full of pics and covers in depth about some characters and movies. Goes through the avengers movie time line.Glossy and interesting facts. Most talked about is probably iron man followed by capain America then Thor.

No Spider-Man Homecoming.
Although this, y'know, for kids, it's a surprising good reminder/primer for Infinity War without too much boggy detail. Well designed with an excellent selection of photos. One oddity - other than in relation to Civil War, Spider-man and especially Homecoming is a no show, even in the supposed watch list at the front of the book. Probably this something to do with the vagaries of the Sony license and printed media, but it's a strange loss.

Fun facts
Magazine style book full of glossy pages with easy to read snippets of information about all you favourite marvel characters. Pick up and put down style book or a quick reference for those facts needed for the pub quiz or disputes with fellow Marvel fans. It is a bit bigger than A5 and probably would look more like an annual if it was as big as A4. Great for an Marvel fan I would say.

Great for fans and older kids
This is great, but not really for younger kids. My 5 year old loves Spiderman, Pokemon and some others. He doesn't really understand what marvel is and doesn't understand why it doesn't include some of hi sfavourite characters. There is a lot of information though, so if you're a Marvel/Avengers/Whoever fan then this is a great buy.

Not for the nerds...
Not a book for Marvel nerd, they will know everything in here. But if you want to catch up with the stories without slogging your way through the entire series, then this is the book for you!
