May need to be plugged in before powering on computer
The first one I received didn't work - or maybe it did? There is absolutely no paperwork included or instructions printed on the box. The only thing it says is "plug and play". The first HUB that I plugged into my front USB ports did not seem to work in either port for 2 devices that worked just fine in the ports directly. Amazon is great, though, and they replaced it quickly. I was not ready to give up, as I really need this device and like the fact that each port can be turned on or off as needed. When the 2nd device arrived, my computer was already off, so I plugged it in before I turned the computer on... and voila, all 4 ports work on at least one (I didn't even check the other) of my built in USB ports on the front of my computer. So, I suggest that if you have a problem, try plugging the device in before you turn on the computer and see if it works that way!

Disappointed
I actually haven't tried it yet, as my prior USB hub suddenly started working. But here is why I am disappointed. The cord that attaches to your computer is very short--only 5 inches. I have an iMac so that will leave it dangling from the back. The second problem is partly my fault and partly the way Amazon posts reviews. I read all the reviews and everyone was thrilled by the 7 ports, which is one of the reasons I bought this. Unfortunately--and here is the part that is my fault--the item I ordered only has 4 ports. Yes, I should have paid closer attention, but I also don't think Amazon should be posting reviews for a different model under this product.

... system to switch between USB sticks and it works great. The only problem is I use Kingston Data ...
I bought this switched USB hub for my stereo system to switch between USB sticks and it works great. The only problem is I use Kingston Data Traveler 100 sticks and they are to wide to plug in next to each other, the ports on the hub needs to be spaced apart just a little more, Thus I can only plug in 4 at one time.

Good -- cable may to be short for some applications
Does what it is designed -- the usb cord to plug and power it may me too short for some (it is only about 4" long). It was perfect for my use but see how it might be problematic for some

Handy Little Gadget
This is such a handy little gadget. I ran out of USB ports and really didn't want a large hub sticking out of one of my USB ports. I ordered this and love that I can turn the ports on and off for things like my speakers. I like that the cord is long enough to route it behind my laptop so it is out of the way. It was an obvious great choice and I'd recommend it highly to anyone needing more USB ports on any device.

Out of space
This is just what I needed because I have so many USB devices and had to install 2 separate USB cards and then I got a USB 3.0 drive and had to add another card. Then my audio went out on one side of my motherboard and I had to get a PCI card, but all of my PCI slots were full, the answer was this HUB. And now all my external except for the 3.0 are plugged into my computer through this HUB. And all is well.

constant failures when moving
I thought it was good until after a few days it started to fail ... it had to be moved so that it could work properly .. the USB cable is of poor quality. He could only solve what he wanted for a few months. but with some difficulty. There may be better.

this piece of garbage destroyed my laptop! the moment I plugged it into my laptop killed my other 2 usb drives on the laptop!
I am so angry with this! I have a new laptop and this usb device from the moment I plugged it into my laptop killed my other 2 usb drives on the laptop!I have reinstalled firmware, chipset drivers, and even reloaded from scratch the OS. Nothing works! Now I will have to ship my laptop back to HP and wait for another laptop all because this piece of garbage destroyed my laptop!
