Lightweight and worked great at Myrtle Beach this past weekend.

I picked this up specifically to help pick up brass casings from a sand floor shooting range. We have tried multiple other types of pick up tools from pecan pickers to contraptions specifically made to pick up brass. The problem is that they all are meant to work on firm ground, if not concrete. Our range is 100% sand with some rocks thrown in. So you wind up picking up each individual piece of brass by hand, which is a real pain!So I got this sand scoop and threw a handle on it that I got on sale from my local big box store. Two screws later and it was ready to go. After we were done shooting for the day, one of my buddies grabbed it and said “I’ll go give it a try.” It usually takes about 10 minutes for maybe 10 guys to pick up all of the new brass on the range. We look at it as the annoying thing we have to all do at the end of the day.So, my buddy disappears for 10 minutes he comes back and says ”It looks pretty good, I think we’re all done.” He’s got a full box of brass and he said it just went so fast that he was able to do the entire range in that time.While it did pick up few rocks as well, no big deal at all. Collectively, it saved nine people the time it takes to pick up the brass and, because you don’t have to kneel down and pick it up on your hands and knees, it saved everyone’s backs and knees as well.I could not be happier with this, and I’m going to buy at least three or four more so we have them on hand for the next range. Super recommend for working in sand!

I ordered this for our beach vacation where we like to metal detect in the beach sand and this is perfect for sifting through the sand looking for treasures. It’s lightweight but sturdy. I didn’t get the long handle which probably would make it easier to use it. The grip on the handle is comfortable and easy to hold. The deep scoop body is nice for covering a larger area by allowing you to sift a larger amounts of sand.

This scoop is perfect for metal detecting on sand! I got the version without a pole, but I sure wish I got the version with the pole. I thought it might fit another pole I have, but it doesn't. The mount is for a pole with those springy "buttons" that click in to place, like a pool cleaning pole. I wish they made a version with threads, like for a broom handle or paint extension pole, but this is very solidly constructed and works well.
