Focus Groups: A Practical Guide for Applied Research 5th Edition

I took an onsite class from the authors and read this text prior to attending their course in Focus Groups. I highly recommend having this on hand if you plan to focus groups or interviews on a regular basis, professionally or academically. I used this for my Master's project but intend to be utilizing this for future community advocacy work in the near future. It's a very simple read and very practical.

This is truly a practical guide that will walk you through the entire process of designing your focus group project, sampling, question design and routing, data analysis and report writing. Krueger writes in a clear, non-academic style that still leans on current research and theory with proper citations. You could use this guide to complete your first focus group successfully. The book has a plastic spiral binding which I guess must give it that "practical" feel. Lots of tips and tricks abound through the book.

This exceeds my expectations. It is a complete guide from conceptualizing of what a focus group is (with a brief history), to a step-by-step guide of how to do one. With actual examples from the authors experience.

My dissertation chair suggested that I consider a focus study for my research. She suggested that I find a text about focus groups and further went on to recommend a SAGE text on the subject. Well I hit the jackpot with this one. I sat down yesterday morning with trepidation-- however that feeling soon changed. This is a scholarly book that is entertaining. I am halfway through with it and will easily finish it today.

Theory and practice are sound,, however this now a bit dated technology wise, all they talk about is telephone conference calls which is now really outdated.

English is not my first language but this book is so well written that it made it easy to read even for me.I found it informative and very usable in my master thesis.Using a kindle edition made making and using highlights very easy.I highly recommend this book.

Very clear and remarkably practical text. I found it enjoyable to read and highly informative. Real-world examples of what works and (more importantly) what does not. Highly recommend this book as an introduction to effective and successful focus group execution.

Great, great resource for anyone starting out in focus group research. The authors cover just about every aspect of focus groups, from planning to conducting international groups. If you are interested in the field, then I highly recommend this book; it will get you started off on the right foot.

Very readable and extremely detailed

I read this book to prep the methodology for a thesis and it balanced detail, practicality and readability. More of a how-to guide than a theoretical text. I feel like I could conduct focus groups and do simple analysis after reading this book. If you need to know about more detailed ways to do qualitative data analysis or ethical guidelines, another book would be needed to supplement this book.

Great book. Very easy to read and understand, even for beginners.

Why save money on the cover? Good content but the "package" is disappointing !
