The Olaria Pirraça produces regional pottery of Alentejo handmade and hand painted. It is an art that requires a minimum experience of 8 years. This is the time needed to train a good potter, the man who molded clay pieces manually. Mr. Ezequiel Pirraça knew how to transmit his knowledge and his art to his son Manuel Pirraça that currently leads the company in collaboration with a potter and three painters. In 1930, when it was founded, this small village had more than 40 potteries in activity that constituted a major source of economic activity and employment in the region. Due to shortage of manpower specialized, today exist very few potteries, which make the pieces produced very precious. The whole execution process of products is manual (legally recognized in a letter of artisanal production unit), which leads to pieces with unique characteristics. The diversity of pieces in this portfolio come from the company's creative ability of potters and painters and the multiplicity of forms and paintings that you can run. The clay, after kneading, is shaped by the potter around. In general, the parts are painted after drying and then baked in the oven gas to about 1000 ° C. The last phase, the vitrification requires a new firing of the piece and the only way this is done. The Olaria Pirraça has a wide range of parts for decorative purposes (indoor and outdoor) or food. These can be machine washed, can go in the microwaves, oven and stove, but should not suffer violent thermal shocks. The materials used in parts comply with the National Legislation (NP2098), European (EC No. 1935/2004) and American (ASTM C738), including the maximum levels of lead and cadmium.
