Real Stoicism, simply translated into English
The handbook of practical advice - how to actually live the Ancient Greek philosophy of Stoicism. Being “stoic” doesn’t mean withholding of emotion. Instead, it focuses on recognizing that it is our reactions to events that cause us distress - and more importantly, that we can choose to control these reactions, even if the events themselves are far outside our control. This book is the handbook - the lecture notes of one of Epictetus’ students - summarizing his philosophy into bite-sized pieces, easily read and easily digested. An example: #8 “Ask not that events should happen as you will, but let your will be that events should happen as they do, and you shall have peace.” Real Stoicism, simply translated into English.

A Great Read
The message from Epictetus is beyond what I can describe as "great advice". I consumed this book in one setting and it opened me up to my inner voice. The voice of reason. The voice that gives me guidance on my quest for a better me. This book is helping me conjure up the strength to take on anything and think about only what I have a direct affect on.This book is obviously one of the great three titles on philosophy, but if you're not into philosophy you can still get from this book what you are not taught in school, how to live life. Peace & Love ✌

Graphic is pixelated- font is large. Content is lovely. Buy for the messages, not to display on a shelf

A worthwhile read
In this small book, Epictetus offers his readers some pretty good advice for getting along in the world. His basic point is that one should recognize that some things or out of our control and that there is no point in worriyng about them. Those things over which we do have control may or may not be reason for concern, but he apparently preferred a stoic approach to the problems of life. I read this book in about an hour and consider it to have been aa hour well spent.

Excellent!
This is a seminal work from one of the most well-recognized Stoics, other than Marcus Aurelius.Epictetus, despite being a slave, offered thoughts on how to live free and be free.Recommend to anyone wanting to live a fulfilling life.

It's a shame this book does not contain an introduction ...
It's a shame this book does not contain an introduction but it's a very clear text, it is a short read but that's due to the length of the actual text itself. My only concern was where the term m-5 randomly appears on page 16 and I'm not sure if this is a print error or some reference for when this was being translated.

Still the most important first-buy in Stoic thought (but listen as well as read)
Epictetus' Enchiridion or Handbook is a short text – the audio podcast version from LibreVox is less than 40 minutes long. But it is rich in meaning without being dense and hard to follow. This is not surprising given it is reportedly notes from his lectures. If you are interested in Stoic thought, there is masses to choose from, including multiple translations and modern reinterpretations. But this is where you should start.I have no particular comments about this version versus any other. The translation is fine – don't pay too much for versions that just offer the same public-domain translations. My main recommendation is that you also download the LibreVox podcast version. The Enchiridion bears multiple rounds of reflection, and listening to it reinforces its messages even more than reading alone.

Easy to read and to understand
If you like old Greek philosophy this is a book you need to read. The philosophy of Epictetus is easy to read and to understand, so it is a great book to read if you want to introduce yourself to philosophy.

Good to the point brief
A good book for a brief grounding in Stoicism. Can be gone through in one sitting. Liked the exposition on dichotomy of control. A good book to start building character and start the journey to imbibe Stoic virtues.
