I use dehooking tools regularly for bottom fish (snappers, groupers, etc.) as well as pelagics like dolphinfish. If the shaft of the dehooking tool rotates freely when the handle is turned, it is completely ineffective. This is the case with the Booms R08 tool, therefore this tool is not worth bringing on the boat. Do not purchase.

We used this hook remover on Sockeye and King Salmon. It worked great vs. using pliers to remove the hook. There were no issues with the metal arm coming loose although I had thought about putting a glob of JB Weld on the nut as a precaution. This is my second remover tool. I gave the first one to our guide who was pleased to have it. He had jury rigged a hook remover out of a coat hanger and a wine bottle cork.

In less than 5 months the stainless shaft is turning freely inside of handle. In fact it is wobbly and is likely to fall out of handle. It is now useless. This is with using only an average of 1 day a week. Unsure if there is any type of warranty or not. I have had great luck with other Booms products but this one is a dud or maybe I just got a bad one.

Hook removal can be quite painful, this tool takes most of that out of the equation and keeps your fingers and hands away from the hook and the teeth of the fish, if it has teeth.

Plastic caps on ends of handle keep falling out, small complaint, no really issue, great for small to medium fish. I would won’t something with a longer shaft for toothy critters. This one is perfect for regular size catfish, stripers and bass.

My husband loves this product for fishing. It makes it very easy to get the hook out without a lot of handling of the fish. He’s even given some of these as gifts to his friends that fish!

Excellent at getting hooks out of fish and sharks I’d rather not go near their mouth. Strong and has held up to almost a year of fishing and barracuda and sharks and other fish have all come right off the hook thanks to this crafty tool. Must have on board.

Feels like a well made product but it arrived missing an end cap on the handle. 5 stars if it arrived complete or the seller can send a replacement piece.
