I was honestly impressed with the design and quality of this locking diary set. It's simply adorable! The locking mechanism is easy to work - comes with guide stickers to show how to slide the latch over to open the strap. Clear instructions are provided to change the lock combination. I also love the pens that come with it. I haven't met a girl yet who's eyes don't light up at the sight of those diamond-topped pens and you can never go wrong with glitter pens - a great combination. The bracelet is a cute touch, but says "younger girl" to me.... I think what's missing are some stickers, but the set is complete without them for sure! I also liked that the design is appropriate for younger girls all the way up to middle school - definitely not too childish.It all comes in a box and there's a card inside to write a gift note to your recipient - a great gift option!

The diary itself is soft and feels leather-like with padding. The lock is secure and the instructions to change the combination are easy to follow. I love that there are blank pages and lined pages because a picture is worth a thousand words-- so she can make a picture and then write the story that goes with it. The paper is a nice quality and the pens provided don't bleed through on it. I also like that you can take the notebook out and keep the binder and put in a new notebook when you fill up the original one. So, this gift will last a lot longer. The design is nice for a pre-teen/early teen as it's not babyish (according to the 11 year old). The pen with the "diamond" is extra nice and special. The stickers and 3 glitter pens are nice extras. I don't quite get why the bracelet is included, but I like it, it's pretty and coordinates with the vibe of the journal. It comes in a nice box which makes a good gift. The one thing I might change is that there is a nice little gift card included, but it comes inside the box. So, you have to open everything up to get it out to include it on the outside of the gift. I think this is an awesome gift!

This is a nice little journal with a durable padded cover. The watercolor print is nice and understated with a simple message: "Believe in your dreams." The lock works well with clear instructions on how to change the code. The cover does slip over the notebook, but it fits securely.The pages in this journal are ruled on the front side only which makes the back great for drawing, but a bit less efficient for writing. Each page has a field for the date, weather, and day of the week as well as memo # (which I find excessive). There is a cute little prompt at the start of the book to record hobbies and goals.This comes with a lot of great accessories too, including colorful pens and one with a fake diamond setting on it.

My kid isn't the playing-pirates-on-the-playground kid. She is bright, introspective, and loves to draw. But, she doesn't want to draw at recess in case she forgets her work and someone else looks at it. This thing is perfect. Yes, it's kind of easy to reset, but most people who find it won't realize that. She loves the gel glitter pens, and immediately took to customizing it for her use. She might have over-crammed it with some drawing tools, making it a little harder to unlock, but that's for her to figure out.
