Great album. Love it.

Disc faulty - on e track refused to play.The tracks that did were excellent!

I have the cassette version of this compilation and love it. I failed to notice this cd only has 20 tracks & not the 40 listed on the double cassette. The cd is also faulty and won't play past the track following Smokestack Lightening. Although it only cost 19p plus p&p I feel I have wasted my time with this item.

Focusing mainly on the sixties but straying either side of that arbitrary divide, this series brings together many classic songs from the golden age of R and B. The series largely but not entirely avoids Motown, but plenty of other compilations are available devoted to Motown.Among the most famous tracks here are Respect (Aretha Franklin), Midnight train to Georgia (Gladys Knight and the Pips), My girl (Temptations), My guy (Mary Wells) and Dock of the bay (Otis Redding). Muddy Waters is here with his version of Got my mojo working, which later became a UK hit for Manfred Mann.Dorothy Moore made Misty blue her own; the song started life as a country hit for Eddy Arnold, but his version has faded into obscurity; you can find it if you look hard enough, but it's not one the songs he is most remembered for. It is Dorothy's cover that people remember.So marked the end of a great series, although the record label eventually compiled a Best of set.

This is a fantastic compilation, guaranteed to encourage even the most restrained person to belt out a classic number! Whether you are demanding R.E.S.P.E.C.T like Aretha, or just want to tell the world that you Feel Good, like James Brown, this is definitely the album to put on when you need a little soul food. Brilliant.
