COOL & COMFORTABLE Stay cool and comfortable this summer with the Symphony DIET50i Evaporative Air Cooler. The DIET50i is a powerful air cooler, humidifier and air cleaner that does not require any venting or installation. It's perfect for well ventilated small to medium sized rooms or as personal cooler. This portable air cooler delivers impressive spot cooling performance that works straight from the box. COOLING TECHNOLOGY The beauty of the DIET50i air cooler is that it generates a steady stream of cold air through evaporation. It works by pulling warm air into the back of the machine through the iPure 5 stage filter system. The air is then passed through an enhanced honeycomb filter which is wet with water from the tank. The water evaporates and is pushed out of the front of the machine by a fan to create a soothing cool breeze. This also conditions the air with more moisture for added comfort. EASY TO USE The DIET50i is incredibly easy to use. All you have to do is fill the large 50 litre water tank with water, or if you want an even cooler breeze you can fill the tank with ice. Once you have filled the tank all you have to do is turn the machine on, choose which of the 3 fan speeds you want the machine to run using and the cooler will deliver an even level of cooling.

It's no good for a living room or similar residential space
There's a lack of attention to detail on this cooler. First thing you'll notice is that the cooling will not work unless you fill it to a certain point, except there's no way of knowing what that point is. I found that it's roughly 3-4 litres.Secondly, this is loud. It's no good for a living room or similar residential space.Thirdly, it smells. There's a weird rubber smell that's due to the filters in the back of the machine. When the air is pumped out, this smell permeates the room. It might well go after a few weeks, but I decided to send it back.Fourth, if you need to drain the machine, there's a plughole at the very bottom of it. You need to raise the entire machine up onto something so you can get a jug or hose or whatever underneath. All that was needed was to make the water tank 5cm above the bottom of the machine and it'd make life easier.Fifth, the fans are only located on one side of the machine. When you look at the thumbnails, it looks like that entire black grilled area is the fan area, but it's not. Split that in half vertically and the fans are located on the left. Additionally, the fans don't actually even take up the whole height of the grilled area. It's about 40% fan and the rest just tries to catch the breeze. It's poorly designed. Please don't buy this. You'll regret it if you're just looking for something to help your house feel cooler over summer.

Feeble fan, left uncool and disappointed
Bitterly disappointed with this “Air Cooler”. Would give it half a star if able. Out of the box, there was no clear indication where the water was supposed to go (the small black and white instructions shows a generic device instead of the Diet 50) all there was, was a very small hole at the top, which I was unsure was for water at all. (There’s no way you’d get ice in this thing without crushing it into mush). Checked YouTube for reviews thinking it might show how it’s filled correctly, but every video was in Hindi language and the device was completely different to the model I have. After taking the plunge and finding it did eventually fill the tank, I moved it to a suitable spot in my bedroom.First of all upon turning it on, I discovered that the fan is incredibly weak on max setting, after pressing the “Cooling” option, found it became very noisy but no difference in temperature from the air being blown. I left it running for about 4-5 hours thinking it might take a while to work properly, but no, the room remained warm and unaffected. I’m returning this and urge anyone looking at this to read all reviews on here and YouTube before purchasing.

Hold onto your money - all it does is drive you mad with noise.
I agree with every word that the two recent reviewers have posted (although my particular machine doesn't so far make the rubber smell that one of the reviewers has identified). In particular, the space for vents is only partially used by the fan, the rest being "decorative" - see picture. It is fair to say that the amount of wind it gives off is reasonable … but you would get that from a £10 fan. The cooling effect is minimal, but above all, despite all the bluster, it's deafeningly noisy. I used it during the England-Sweden match, and again during the Russia-Croatia match, and was obliged to turn the TV sound off during both. To have this enormous device bellowing away as well as a football commentator, and still feeling hot, would have been completely unacceptable. Fortunately, the footie went the right way in both matches.I had hoped that buying this would avoid me having to make a hole in the wall to accommodate an air-con unit. I hadn't expected an evaporative cooler to be as efficient as an air-con device in our climate, but neither did I expect it to be next to useless.A huge disappointment. I am sending it back, and will be looking for a suitable air-con unit.(Added on 11th August) In fairness to the supplier, he did arrange for a refund of my money without undue delay.

Vastly overpriced
Very difficult to get water into it and if you like a Boeing 747 in your living room this is the product for you

Does the job
As good as a temporary a/c. Perfect for a small room (under 20m2).

Inaccurate dimensions
I think this product works very well, but the dimensions given in the description are inaccurate as it is well over a metre tall. I've not measured it but I'm five foot and it's nearly as tall as me. Having said that it does produce a cool breeze even on the lowest setting and effectively reduced the temperature in our the rough lounge dining room by nearly 2 degreesC.
