The Thing (PS2)

It arrived early and in perfect condition. Very satisfied.

Team cooperation is what distinguishes this game from other survival games. One could compare it with Project Eden, where you also have 4 team members, but Project Eden is much more a puzzle game. Here, survival and scary atmosphere is what it is about. What makes The Thing unique, is that you have to take into account/manage your team members' feelings (fear, trust etc) by means of a well developed interface.Graphics: 3/5 : nice snow, nice levels, detailed characters, but I would have liked dynamic, scary shadows (see Silent Hill 2), also flames aren't convincingSound: 3/5 lots of ambient sounds, better than average voice acting, but I miss a dramatic soundtrackStoryline: 5/5 : building further on the cult movie, the script is excellentGameplay: 4/5 : equally divided parts for exploration, puzzle solving, fighting (shooting), some strategic insight for team feelings managementOverall, the game manages to evoke the atmosphere of paranoia that made the 1982 cult movie renowned. If you were intrigued by the movie, you won't be disappointed by the game.

I had this originally when it first came out for the Xbox. Now I'm back into retro I purchased a ps2 and bought this. Didn't expect it to look good at all on my hdtv, but was amazed how sharp it looks and it hasn't aged much at all. I won't spoil the plot but I will recommend that before playing this, you watch the movie first.For people wanting to know my hookup, I used a slim ps2 with component cables on a 24 inch 1080p hdtv.

Well the game is a good add to the thing franchise, it gives you more about the story beyond, the atmosfere its awesome, well made, the graphics are ok, not the best graphics of the system but does the job very well. The team system of the game, the trust mechanics etc are very well made.For me the gameplay was the bad thing, to slow for me, lack of fluency in the interface, and poor camera work that difficults a game that is pretty hard rigth from the begining...I died many times because of the poor controls and camera...well, if you're a fan of the thing world and survival horror genre, then this game is for you, if not, the poor controls may test your patience.

Play this in the dark and it WILL scare your pants off!From the opening level where you get to hear Kurt's tape recorded message from the original film, this game will continually get your heart pumping (literally).Who can you trust ?Well that's the refreshing angle from which this game attacks your senses. Give a team member some confidence so you can use their services, i.e. by giving them one of your valuable weapons and precious ammunition and then they may mutate into one of the many "Things" in this game.You just never know; and when they mutate unexpectedly !!!For those gamers who love the survival/horror genre but have yearned for something a little different this is the game for you. Especially if your partner is a gamer too, then you can really spring some surprises!

Loved this game. Good storyline. and good grahtics for the early PS2

After the incidents of the film, Captain Blake and his team are responsible for investigating the area in Antarctica where all the tragedy took place. Prepare to be terrified to the bone by witnessing the horrors of the beast and the treason by one of your own.

ACHTUNG:dies ist nur für Cheater interessantDiese Englische Version ist Inhaltlich genau wie die Deutsche aber es gibt einen Unterschied.Wer gerne lange im Schnee rumläuft und die Gegend genau erkunden will hat mit Action Replay die Möglichkeit einige Cheats frei zu schalten-diese funktionieren bei der GB Version besser als bei der D Version (warum auch immer).Es können wirklich alle Funktionen ohne Einschränkung frei geschaltet werden.

I gave stars because the case/disc itself was in fantastic condition however, and this is my fault for not realizing it, my copy is a UK region version. I cant play it on my ps2 because its region locked so my PS2 (US) cant read it.I didn't want to give one star because its my fault for not realizing the region but I haven't been able to play the game so I don't know if its any good. I just wanted to give anybody who's looking the heads up to make sure you check the region!

i love the thing but when i got this and tried it. nothing. it never worked

Everything seemed to be okay but the game doesn't work, pretty sure it is a bootleg. I have GTA Vice city and the disc is twice the weight as this one.
