Samurai Jack: Season 4

"He who runs with aggression walks without dignity."
Unpredictable. Illogical. Impossible. He is THE ONE! Samurai Jack--defender of truth, freedom, and talking dogs--is back for a fourth and final season of futuristic hacking and slashing. Set 4's two discs come in a cardboard slipcase, tastefully decorated in a gold honeycomb pattern with Aku's hideous likeness prominently featured on the front (unless your fold-out disc-holder is upside-down and backwards, as mine was). Disc 2 includes a nice selection of extras like promos, deleted scenes, and a very interesting visit with the show's creators entitled, `Genndy's Roundtable.'Among these thirteen stellar episodes is the hilarious two-parter, `The Scotsman Saves Jack,' in which we meet a goofy guy in a red jacket by the name of Brent Worthington, who just happens to look exactly like Jack. In episode XLII, Jack encounters a hip-hoppin', jive-talkin' "Sam-u-rai," and teaches him that, "You can never defeat another if you know not how to defeat yourself."In XLI, Jack traverses the devastated streets of Andromeda and is attacked by the awesome Mondo-bot. The frightened robotic Andromedan citizens lead the wandering samurai warrior to a Gundam-like mobile suit and Jack attacks the Mondo-bot Voltron style.Episode XLIII begins with yet another battle with the fiendish Aku. But this time, Aku calls the fight off early because he's afflicted with a nasty cold virus. Unfortunately, before leaving, the shape-shifting villain coughs up a piece of himself...a piece which Jack accidentally swallows! Our hero is slowly but surely possessed by the evil black spirit of all-enshrouding Akuness, and so he must travel to the watery temple of the lizard-monks for help.XLVII is an obvious homage to 'Star Wars,' featuring the butterfly-like Prince Astor and Princess Verbina of Alepidopterans. The insectoid siblings (along with their golden assistant, Chitron 6) are relentlessly pursued by Squoomian gunships as they leave their home on Chrysalis to search for their royal navy. They crash-land in Samurai Jack's world and are quickly captured by Aku's demonic minions.Episode L introduces an emotional robot hit man in a black trench coat and wingtip shoes who's pining for his little lost dog, Lulu, a.k.a. "sweet thing." The merciless Aku is holding Lulu hostage in order to coax her mechanized owner out of retirement. Aku wants Samurai Jack terminated, and the twin pistol-wielding dog-lover is more than willing to do the job...as soon as the rain stops. So, at long last, all of Jack's adventures are available on DVD. But, it is a bit disappointing to learn that, like `Lost in Space,' this spectacular series does not have a satisfactory finale. Genndy Tartakovsky says there might be a Samurai Jack movie someday. Let's hope that day comes very soon. In the meantime, the screaming baby episode will have to do.

the final one) is one of its best. Several of my favorite episodes are on this ...
The fourth season of Samurai Jack (and for a very long time, the final one) is one of its best. Several of my favorite episodes are on this collection:"Jack vs. the Ninja" - Aku sends a ninja to try and kill Jack. This episode contains one of the show's most striking, and stylized sequences, as the two warriors engage in a battle of light and shadow, symbolized entirely by pure white and black. It's a scene that has to be watched just to be believed."Samurai vs. Samurai" - Jack is challenged to a duel by a braggart claiming to be a samurai. This is probably one of the show's funniest episodes, just because of the hilarious voice-acting of "Da Samurai" (David Alan Grier) contrasting with Jack (Phil Lamarr)'s stoic and composed attitude."Jack and the Flying Prince and Princess" - Jack comes to the rescue of an alien prince and princess. This episode is a must-watch for fans of Star Wars, as the story of the episode proudly wears its influence from George Lucas' space opera."Jack vs. Aku" - Tired of the constant failure of his minions, Aku challenges Jack to a one-on-one fight. This might be my personal favorite Jack episode, because it is just one of the most entertaining and humorous of the entire show. Aku (Mako Iwamatsu) delivers a hilarious performance, as he orders a monster over the phone, JUST LIKE ordering a pizza; shouts his frustration at his minions' failures; and later delivers a spot-on summary of the standard plot of a Jack episode. Jack gives some great moments, too - if you haven't seen it, I don't want to spoil it, but the end of the fight between him and Aku turns into a game of one-upmanship that is absolutely priceless.Fantastic work all around. I strongly recommend this show to any fan of good animation.

Samuri fulfills requirements, but falls short of expectations.
I have long since been an On-the-Verge-of-Obsessive Fan of Samuri Jack. I have watched the first 3 seasons over and over so many times that my favorite episodes are committed to memory. Still, I felt, as I'm sure many other fans can relate, a certain unfulfillment with such an open ended series; and I longed for a conclusive end to the saga. So, when I heard that a 4th Season had been created; my head was flooded with a childlike excitment at the prospect of epic closure. And while this 4th Season successfully lives up to the standards placed by it's predecessors with the fantastic artistry, the touching & moralistic plotlines, and of course the suspensfully precise battle scenes; my desire for a triumphant conclusion was not met. I was extremely disappointed that by the end of Season 4 Jack seems no nearer to defeating Aku than he was at the end of the 3rd Season! I do not want to discredit the Season too much however; it proved overall wonderfully entertaining, beautifully creative, and definitely provided additions to my 'favorites' list. So, if you are simply looking to expand your personal entertainment library, or just wish to continue Jack's attempts to return to the past for your at home viewing pleasure, then by all means purchase this set. But if you are expecting the exciting end to Jack's righteous quest to vanquish the evil Aku that you've been longing for; then I'm sorry to say you will expiriance some dissatisfaction.

Great stuff!
Great stuff! For those who are Samurai Jack fans there is not much to say outside the fact after all these years Samurai Jack will finally get a proper ending. I realized I was lacking the volume 4 so I got it from a 3rd party seller. Took a while to get it but I am glad to have completed my 4 volumes collection.

great but where's the last season/episode?
another great declination of the cartoon series, with themed episodes, good sountracks, but it all ends up with an episode as just another one and no grand finale in sight!? There, that's where the disappointment with the producers et al. lies.

I wish there was and ending
Just like the previous 3 seasons. Jack brings a unique art style of Glendy T. with fantastic stories to boot. If you are a fan of his work, from Dexter's Lab to Hotel Transylvania then you have to watch Samurai Jack. Now if he would get to make the movie he wants to end the series.....
